Another idea: Upon moving the mouse over a collapsed rack name the full rack name is instantly displayed in a tooltip just above the rack. Thus the tooltip is instant (no wait) and neatly positioned. What do u think?

Would you say its better design to have consistent horizontal text "tooltip" rather than text in two directions, tilting the head to read the "bookshelf" and then back?
Edit: The 'name-on-the-meter' may help those who use many tracks, but it may reduce clarity etc. for those who use fewer, and colour-code.

I think if you've 40+ racks, the visual cue of the name on the meter is of more direct use than having to move the mouse from one rack to the next to work out which one is the one you're trying to find.

This is just awesome :hyper:
With such faders you will see 58 tracks on a 1920-screen at once. Who is in need for that?

As already researched and discussed before it's practically impossible for a project to know whether it has changed or not. So there always will be a question. The question is there. Right? Or i'm missing your point?
Thank you. And yes, that's a kind of warning. What I asked for, is a message like "Replace with saving"/"Replace without saving" corresponding to "Quit with saving"/"Quit without saving"
But it's not a big problem, and I know, that it's me, who is responsible for saving ...

I think it's a good solution.

I'm sorry to say that i won't go for the text on level meter idea for the reasons i mentioned before. I want to make clear, to avoid confusion, that i do appreciate pljones' creative thinking and mockups, thanks for that!
I've implemented the instant tooltip solution and i think it works quite nice, it definitely is muchmuch better than the current situation and it's very fast to lookup a collapsed rack name, even if you have many racks, taken into account that you have at least some idea of how your project is structured and also hinted by the first characters of the collapsed rack name and the rack coloring. I'll upload an update soon.

There is a new M7.0.15 in http://www.mutools.com/galaxa/

What's changed:
  • Step sequencer on front panel: Initial size parameters were too big. Fixed.
  • Performance optimization for audiorate modulation cables that use a linear curve.
  • Copying front panel components now works for all components. (allthough it does only makes sense for some of them)
  • In some specific cases the play cursor could be displayed only partially. Fixed.
  • Rack names that are not fully visible are now instantly shown in a steady tooltip just above the rack.
  • Tooltips at the very top or left of the screen could be partially off screen. Fixed.
How to update:
Make sure you already have installed the complete M7.0.12 package. Then:
OSX: Replace the existing M7 MuLab.app file by the new version in the small zip file.
Windows: Replace the existing M7 MuLab.exe and MuLab.ID files by the new versions in the small zip file.

Anyone who wants to mix his music, here only drums can take 10 channels and there's folks that have 100+ channels with all the layering and stuff, not mentioning all send channels too, 40 channels is pretty much standard these days, so yeah, pretty much majority will have the need :tu:
This entire forum is wading through predictions, opinions, barely formed thoughts, drama, and whining. If you don't enjoy that, why are you here? :D ShawnG

thank you for adding 'return on stop' : ) maybe it's been there for a while but I just noticed it yesterday w/ M7.

Easily! Especially if you use a rack for each drum sound, as I usually do. I've often thought while using MuLab, the ability to group racks into drums, synths, guitars etc and solo those groups would be nice when it comes to mixing. I know this isn't the place for feature requests, so if it isn't already on the wishlist, I may add it.
