I then said that a separate window for the piano roll would really help things, but he replied that he didn't plan to do this. The result of this isn't looking too great in my opinion. .
I think Jules is trying very hard to keep everything on one screen.I also think he does not want to get drawn, little by little into making Tracktion too similar to other sequencers like Sonar and Cubase that have many windows, that no doubt are great on two monitors but one of Tracktions strengths is having everything on one screen but if you are like me and have a simple utility that gives you another desktop, without the need for two monitors, then yes a another window that I could drag to another desktop wwould be great for me.

I have Tracktion and Sonar.Sonar can have windows "floated" so that you can drag them to another screen if you have two monitors or as in my case drag to another desktop.

Here is the utility that saved me buying another video card and a second monitor but gives me a second desltop to drag windows to or even open applications from...

I guess Jules wants to keep the one page workflow in Tracktion, lets hope he pulls it off.It certainly has many advantages and has a quicker worklflow than Sonar for me.

I just wanted to say thanks for that doubledesktop suggestion! It got me searching, and I stumbled upon Microshaft's free Deskman powertoy... which gives you 4 virtual desktops. Great suggestion!!! they even can work together... :D

makes windows kinda like a linux box with multiple desktops. Kinda like having multiple monitors. You can put completely different programs on completely different desktops... keeps things less cluttered. I guess an ideal example would be using something with rewire. You can keep the rewire program on a completely different desktop so they never share the same screen space.

Or with doubledesktop, you can move windows from the same program on to a different desktop, and just switch between them.

Glad to help!

I must try and see if the VST plugin windows in Tracktion can be dragged to another desktop...hiding a VST interface when the mouse is not over it is a great way to keep it out of the way though, already in Tracktion.

I suppose rewire devices should happily be dragged to desktop *two* with Tracktion on destop *one* 8)

enhanced midi is the big thing for me. We all have to agree Tracktions midi editor sucks hard. I do use midi all the time with Tracktion but only if I can nail the midi in a recording.....no programming or editing....to much trouble. However Tracktion's midi automation rules......very simple and intutive like the rest of Tracktion. I hope the new midi editor looks like Reason's and there is an option to open a midi drum editor that looks like Dr. Rex midi editor. I can program beats in Reason no problem.....in Tracktion I just play them live on my drumKAT and hope all is on point. Also Tracktion quatization seems funny at times....Reason is on point snapping. I would get a big huge boner if Tracktion's midi was just like REasons.

Enhanced midi functionality? 64% [ 43 ]
It looks that this will remain the top priority for T2.For now anyway... 8)

Audio editing and recording? 11% [ 8 ]
Way behind midi features, but the next top prority for potential and existing users.

Better FX and instruments? 0% [ 0 ]
Just too many freebie alternatives eh?

A mixer and possibly sends? 7% [ 5 ]
Well...it seems there is still a group who want a mixer or possibly sends.

Features for live use? 2% [ 2 ]
Not many at all here.

Video features? 5% [ 4 ]
I am actually surprised that there are so many that want video features in Tracktion considering ther are so many dedicated video editors out there. Interesting.

Graphics and interface? 1% [ 1 ]
I think it looks great already maybe more options for changing the colour scheme?

Advanced racks...more features? 1% [ 1 ]
I think one out of two well known Tracktion users may have placed that vote... 8)

Audio + midi project file management 4% [ 3 ]
Surprise here...I thought Tracktions project management was very good for all.

Don't forget the poll is open to existing users as well as anyone else who would like to see a particular area developed in T2 wether you use Tracktion or not... It is a rolling poll.

The difference is a matter of composing and recording in Tracktion while seeing the video you are composing against.

Yeah,

I might be talking "Cubase on the Atari ST" speak here, but I found that being able to mute individual clips (MIDI in this case, by selecting an item that came up from pressing the RMB) was very useful in auditioning these 'takes' against other sounds with a view to fine tune sounds over other sounds and enable or disable them to achieve the desired sound in the arrangement.

I voted for enhanced midi functionality, but then I regretted it because that's one less reason to fix the midi in T1.

So what would you have voted for?

I voted for beter racks. I use EXT for midi editing and it serves me very well. The navigation and the way tracks, filters and automation is handled made me buy Trackton. Im happy useing Tracton as a patchbay/tape machine.

Please, please, PLEASE dont mess with the interface.
