This should be a nice sweetener for those who feel let down a little by Native Instruments and jump ship to more ethical smaller outfits like Xfer Records.

I do rank Xfer Records as more ethical than Native Instruments. That doesn't necessarily mean one is ethical and the other is unethical.
Maybe you don't know of or remember how he went about announcing Serum.
I do, and it's been on my list of unethical ever since.
Native can be 'indifferent' at times, but I don't recall ever seeing them slam other companies or their products to bolster their own.

"Relatively" speaking, NI sets a bar that Xfer is still trying to reach up to.
(And I'm sure it's a fine product that unfortunately just hit a sour note in its beginning for me.)

Genuine Q - what is/was the problem?

What seemed to be an almost maniacal vendetta towards U-he. It tempered off in a 'relatively' moderate time frame, but just came off as low class to me. When asked about operations he didn't seem to want to address, he ignored them or suddenly disappeared in those same places he was so manic in up to then. Having had the same symptomatic response from Wusik, he quickly got put in the same watch group for me. I'm sure others have no problem with him, but Xfer, along with a couple of other 'boutique developers' have only helped me formulate flags of people I avoid dealing with now. At this point, for me to even reconsider would require he completely change his transfer/nfr fees and policies. But otherwise, I have no ill will towards him and really hate putting him into any class compared to Wusik. Even momentarily as I did. I guess I've had too many classes in identifying Borderline Personality Disorders now.

^ Oh. I don't remember that but then again I think I am going prematurely senile (my partner reckons so anyway).

What are you talking about? What did he specifically say about U-he or do to them?

Someone should tell BBFG that his account was hacked by a little psycho.

How do you figure that?

Selling a Xfer plug second hand costs $25 in transfer fee and the plug becomes NFR

NI no transfer fee and not NFR
Where's the Like button?

Often in arguments about WUP and other nonsense, we forget that one of the biggest players in the plugin game charges zilch for transfers. Kudos to NI where due.

i got a code for the Steven Slate freebie but the License manager says

Only problem with NI transfers is the serial numbers don't change. I had a problem with one that I tried to sell after removing it from my account only to find a previous owner had reactivated it. This isn't exclusive to NI of course. It's easily avoidable by creating new serials or by requiring that NI themselves do all transfers rather than just deactivating for someone else to register.

Got my code and activated iLok, only to get another Virtual Mix Rack reference on top of the one I already had. No hint of any Monster as far as iLok is concerned. So now there's the iLok reference for VMR with Revival and another for VMR with Monster, I presume.

They switched to a system where you get a unique transfer ID for your products, instead of just deactivating the serial, around a year ago. That way you also get immediate access to the product download now.

But that system doesn't work with all of their plugs all of the time. I've had several that needed to be manually transferred or released from my account. :?

That said, their new system is a good one, when it works for your sale.

"no ill will towards him and I'm sure it's a fine instrument."
So no reason to rehash it, and only point out that between the two, the more established one comes out as one I will continue to deal with while the other is one I currently won't. Again, I may reconsider if there is a change in the Xfer transfer fee/nfr status, as it keeps the product in a higher risk category for me. Attacking other companies is what keeps opening that door to this debate.
