I agree that the Random wavetable feature could create a lot of "waste" but it usually does not take too many attempts to get something that is really interesting or that is even really great.Sendy wrote:No problem! It was fun, and I got some good results. Though I think the random algorythm could use a little work, many of the wavetables you get are nothing but ultra high frequencies. But when I wasn't getting this problem, I was getting really interesting sounds, unlike any other wavetable synth I've heard - very organic.
I'm sure there's a way to translate high frequencies down to sit above the fundamental, using one of the spectral editing tools, but I haven't found it yet.
With some Random wavetbles i did also cut certain parts out that did not sound really good or that did not really seem to fit into the rest of the table.
For simply removing high frequency the advanced features in the editor also offer differnt kinds of filters or comparable features. The "Shrink" feature in the SPECTRUM features could be also helpful to get the high frequeny waveforms down whiel it could also change the sound. The "Shift Down" entry in the same menu shifts all partials of the waveform down by one harmonic.
Maybe it would be indeed possible to get additional Random wavetable modes and maybe comparable to those different options that already exist for random single waveforms. During the closed Beta i had simply used the Random feature too few to make any suggestiosn for this.
