Hello and thanks for your tips.

I am looking for a plugin like RBass or MaxxBass. Do you have any advice?
I am also seeking an LA2A comp plugin affordable.

Yay :hyper:

There is Melda MBassador.
Which i would prefer since you can better control what it's doing.

I'm really liking LF Max punch by Voxengo - lots of control

SK_Bass plugin by LSR Audio does the same basic thing RBass does (create and blend upper harmonics generated from the bass) - for only $9. Simplified controls but it works.

+1

On top it includes LoAir so to speak.

MBassador is amazing. It's the only plugin that's bass oriented that I think can beat Rbass. The sub harmonic synthesis is a nice added bonus as well.
Don't F**K with Mr. Zero.

Even paid? There are no free bass enhancers like those unfortunately afaik.

Though you're fortunate that MBassador just came out and I can say alike the other posters it is pretty damn good!

As for LA2A, try out DC8C, it has an Opto preset and is fairly configurable anyway.

Maxxbass was Waves' only plugin you couldn't find another to replace.

The mechanism behind such a plug in is simple psychoacoustics.
And you even can build your own effect that's doing the same by combining existing effects.

E. g. if you want to add some kind of "subbass" which works on a small speaker (with no real bass), do the following:

send the signal, you want to "beef up" to an aux.
There, you insert a EQ which cuts the frequencies above the range of your bass.
Next, insert an octaver plug in (i.e. a pitch shifter set to -1 octave [or -2, if you want this. Or both].
Then insert a saturation / moderate distortion plug in that creates harmonics of your generated subbass.
Now insert another EQ. You can cut away everything below and above a range which you want.
It's important, that the passing band has at least a bandwith of ca. 2 octaves.
These will create the illusion of that low frequency which your octaver created, even if you take that low frequency away.

This method gives you a better control of what you're doing cause you can control every step.
Of course you also can take MBassador.

Agreed with the above poster - There are some plugins etc that do this for you but you can always duplicate the bass into 2 versions (EQ'd high and low) and add saturation to the high version, then blend to taste.

If your plugin is a Synth-edit/synth-maker creation, Say So.
If not Make a Mac version of your Plugins Please.

I think almost everyone ends up buying maxxbass/rbass eventually. What it does, it does extremely well and it regularly goes on sale. I've never successfully fully replicated the punch I get from maxxbass using similar methods to your description. Imo there is no 100% substitute.

Being Freeware, I would have mentioned Bark-Of-Dog as well. You can also mimic the effect using SEND:
http://www.vst4free.com/free_vst.php?id=515
Shape the input and the harmonics via the internal high- and lowpass - then switch to parallel-mode.

EDIT: Regarding the LA2A, go for Variety Of Sound's Thrillseeker LA (https://varietyofsound.wordpress.com/20 ... t-limiter/) or Klanghelm's MJUC Junior (though that one is a different beast soundwise)...

Bark of dog is just an eq peak - that's it. You can do that with any eq.

Send is a good suggestion but is quite fiddly to dial in.
