i still havent fully mastered zebra2 yet, i could go another year probably without REALLY wanting something new to play with. a couple other minor suggestions for ongoing general improvements:
~Allow the "sliders" on the XY1234 mod panels to move in increments other than 1.25 , it just goes from zero to 1.25 to 2.5 etc,
ie. if i want to assign the mod knob to the right of an Oscillator's Pitch(depth knob) to be controlled by an LFO, and I want it only to modulate a 1 semi tone range.....thats fine i can do that using the depth knob to +1 (because it has 1 semitone increments up to 48).....
BUT, what if i assign that depth knob to the X1 knob, so that in my performance, i dont want to always have the LFO modulating, i only want it to modulate WHEN i push the X1 knob away from the zero point......problem is that i cant do that, because the XY slider only goes in 1.25 amounts......i actually need need a semitone distance from 0, which would be 100/48 = 2.08333.......
so even if you could not allow for continuous .00 amounts, can you make it 2.08333 increments because at least that is tonally applicable .....why make it 1.25? or somehow have it change to adjust to the modulator that is it assigned to....
basically, easiest would be just let it move in .00 increments
~i also think i have a good grasp on which VCF filters i think are the best sounding for certain sounds.....the 12dB is by far the most pleasing in terms of overall resonance and clarity.....i also NEVER use the XMF filters because they just dont ever result in anything musically pleasing......i think the XMF filters are pretty overated.
yes they go into self resonance, but so what.....the distortion doesnt ever sound very good....
imo the best, cleanest most robust filters are all VCF, the:
12dB
LP SK
LP 35
LP Vintage
AP Ph8
LP Xcite
LP Old Drive
are the most "usable" filters for me....they can provide excellent leads and basslines, the drive on the 12dB sounds way better than all the XMF i have tried...imo
to a lesser extent, i like the LP Xcite, and the LP Old Drive, they are pleasing, but not as robust as the aforementioned.
The LP All Round is very resonant, and that one is by far the most crazy acid filter, but in terms of actual clarity and robustness, it just doesnt quite get there....
All the other VCF filters (other than utility HP BP etc) you could basically trash imo. Create variants of the more robust ones.... and the XMF, i think you could totally trash that actually....it's really not actually useful in a sound design sense....it SOUNDS good on paper....but in actual practical use I am never happy with the ultimate result ive gotten...and believe me, I have tried. I tried so hard BECAUSE it is supposed to be the "amazing" "good" filter, but it isnt. Thats just the truth. How I perceive it.
~i would like more variations on the simple sinewave carrier. just little tweaks...or the ability to change something structural about it. I find that basically all the other carriers are sonically useless unless you are really going for something very glitchy and filled with noise.....all those carriers have too much harmonics

I like the XMF filters... Here is one quick example I just made... first is a single Osc. Then the same Osc with the XMF filter enabled... nothing else changes. Try doing that with the LP12

the xmf is just really innefficient too, the tradeoff is not even worth it, for slightly higher cpu load, there no sonic benefit that i can find...
also, the ModFX, this is basically not very robust either....now on the Hive synth, that flanger sounds incredible, one of the bes ti have heard...on zebra, the chorus is the best one, but its really just not very robust, it just ends up clouding the sound. and the phaser and "phorus" are not nice at all. i think these fx need serious re-vamping
the reverb oth is really amazing, i love that reverb, and the delay is amazing.
the shaper i never use it, it's just blehhh, the distortion is a massive cpu hog, but you can get some really nice fat sounds with, specially on basslines, works good, but still high cpu load.....
i would rather fewer effects that are way more efficient but that are also useful and actually really DIG in to the sound... like all MODFX, i feel like they never really dig in to the sound, they are just kind of sitting on top, and clouding the sound...so there is really a need for some improvement there....
be nice to have a 3rd GLFO.......i would take 3 GLFOs and 3 LFOs over 2 and 4
the EQs i dont ever end up using, because there is just not enough precision, they just end up clouding the sound also....

try doing this with any XMFpdxindy wrote:I like the XMF filters... Here is one quick example I just made... first is a single Osc. Then the same Osc with the XMF filter enabled... nothing else changes. Try doing that with the LP12![]()

The LP12 is one of my favorites. I did not claim the XMF can do anything it can. What I did do is provide an audio example showing how the XMF can do stuff the LP12 or other Zebra filter cannot. Just cause you do not find it useful does not mean that is so for others.zethus909 wrote:try doing this with any XMFpdxindy wrote:I like the XMF filters... this is pure unadulterated 12dB badass...you cannot do this with ANY other filter in zebra.
btw, you did not provide an example without the LP12

better have 6 LFO's that can be mono or poly according to the choice of the user... plus make the Env's looping.zethus909 wrote:

Pardon... I meant re-triggered Env's like Bazille has (via LFO or Sequencer).. which can be tempo sync'edUrs wrote:The envs loop already, if you wish sopdxindy wrote:plus make the Env's looping.

The Zebra2 envelopes can be tempo-synced as well as looped.pdxindy wrote:Pardon... I meant re-triggered Env's like Bazille has (via LFO or Sequencer).. which can be tempo sync'edUrs wrote:The envs loop already, if you wish sopdxindy wrote:plus make the Env's looping.

...but not triggered by anything other than input notes.
