DAW Add/Switch, From Sonar to...?

Audio Plugin Hosts and other audio software applications discussion

Post

Hello,

Hopefully this is a good thread to post this question on since I am considering switching from Sonar to Reaper.

I understand (at least I think I do) how folders work, automatic routing based on the order your tracks are in, etc., but what I would like to be able to do is avoid the "automatic" routing and do it all manually - for two main reasons:

1. It seems that no matter how many times I check my routing, make sure my folders are setup correct, put tracks in a logical order, etc., something at a higher level in the track order seems to be messing with the rest of my mix. For example if I put an EQ on the first track it will have the same effect on all of the tracks below. I'm sure I'm missing something, but my workaround has been to put a blank track at the top with no plugins or audio tracks and it seems to resolve the issue.

2. I want to make it so that ONLY "busses" show up in the mixer view. It seems like I can get close to what I want with the view settings in the mixer, but (I think because of how the routing works) I'm still seeing some things in the mixer that I don't want to. My main purpose is to basically have a track view only (or as close to this as possible) on one monitor, then on a second monitor just have the mixer showing just busses so I can have an uncluttered mixer view.

Hopefully this makes some sense and is possible. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

can hide the child tracks in the mixer/in the track manager/ there is shortkey to it "Mixer: toggle show tracks in folders in Mixer" too (it switches the fourth menu option on the screen), and there is a bit old but handy guide for Sonar users http://www.reaper.fm/guides/SONARtoREAPER.pdf

"1. It seems that no matter how many" can u upload an example project ?

ps. track/mixer view states can be saved using the Screens/Layout panel

Thank you for the reply. I will look over the info in the PDF and see if I can get a session file to upload.

Thanks again.

Thank you! Even thought I had some options checked that I thought would have done the trick in the mixer options, the part you circled in the screenshot "Clickable icon for folder tracks to show/hide children" was not checked. That solved the main problem.

I will keep playing around with some of the other things, but I think I am very close to having this setup how I need.

Thanks again!
