I'm also really liking the new "flat" designs.

And this thread only shows 2 of the 8 available! Minus the "brightness" variations. So there should be something for everyone, no matter which host skin/bg/lighting you use in your studio.
I'm also really liking the new "flat" designs.

Congratulations and thanks, Klanghelm! I'm a proud license owner and happy user of almost every product of yours.

Sadly not that simple...
What BlueCat GainSuite does (and it does it well), is linking the instances. So if turn up the gain on the first instance, the second instance gain will be reduced accordingly. While this is a suitable "connection" if you want to overdrive a static (read: a tool with fixed internal reference level) saturation tool for example (plenty come to mind at this point), it won't give the effect that Sahul is after.
Sahul wants something that analyzes the output of a compressor (or whatever comes post the first VUMT), and then automatically adjust it down to the same signal strength with the second VUMT as he set it up with the first VUMT.
EXAMPLE:
Insert 1 - VUMT (Instance 1): Average Signal is a bass at -13dBFS, so he pulls it down by 5dB to get to -18dBFS = 0VU
Insert 2 - EQ: he does some basic sound design
Insert 3 - Compressor: the compresses the signal
Insert 4 - VUMT (Instance 2): this VU should auto compensate either the signal strength boost via the EQ and/or the gain loss due to the compressor
The only way he can do that "somewhat" automized, is to use the Hold Needle feature, run the track once from start to finish, then adjust the track back down/up to the signal of Instance 1. Manually, not "automated" (dare I say "dumbed down"). Like in the old days - only that VUMT already comes with a gain knob and some basic channel tools (see old SleepyTime Records StereoMeter).
So Sahul is after an Auto Gain circuit that can be found in Tokyo Dawn Labs tools like Kotelnikov and the SlickEQ series. Or the IN-OUT indicator/meter of the Dynamic/Saturation series of Klanghelm (to see the offset, then adjust it accordingly). VUMT v2 can not(!) do that right out of the box. VUMT v2 can also not "auto adjust" the incoming signal strength as it's possible for example with Hornet Plugin's VU Meter "Automatic Gain" mode (with v2 and up, very simplified).
I'm afraid that VUMT v2 is not what Sahul is looking for, or he needs to learn how to compensate the output of an EQ/compressor by ear.

A maintenance update for MJUC is almost finished. Then I'll port SDRR and DC8C to the new framework, which certainly won't take as long as the VUMT update, since I don't have to rewrite these from scratch. I've also started working on a new plugin a while ago. However, it won't be ready for release before the second half of next year. I don't want to go into detail about that one until it's a finished plugin and ready for beta.sfxsound3 wrote:What's in the pipeline?

I was wondering how VUMT could be improved, worked so well already
and looking at the VUMT 2 it is just WOW ...
Thanks Tony
- for not pushing users into a time limited upgrade offer, not a standard nowadays
- the very moderate upgrade price !
Now I need some inspiration for the field "type in some naughty stuff here".

Wouldn't you just check and adjust the levels of the input/output of that effect inside that effect? For example Fabfilter Pro-C tells you what level the signal is feeding into the plugin and what's happening on the output. You can see the difference the processing has made and adjust either to match - granted they are peak levels, not VU or RMS.Sahul wrote:Interesting. Does the Deluxe version allow for communication between instances? I'm talking about situations where you'd insert it before an specific plugin to make the gain staging (i.e. a compressor or a distortion), and use a second instance after that plugin to automatically compensate for level differences. I'm looking for an affordable solution to streamline this repetitive process (currently using Sleepy-Time Stereo Tools, which is fine for simple gain staging, but you have to set it up manually and it's not developed anymore).
Your effects mixer rack is going to fill up very quickly if you have gain compensators pre/post every effect in the chain.
Auto gain makeup can't replace a good pair of ears.

Tony,
Thanks! Great update.
BTW, the VUMT 2 Mac installer uninstalls 1.9.5 and vice versa. I moved VUMTduo and VUMTsolo out of the installed locations temporarily, installed 2.0, and moved them back in, and now Logic sees all three versions.
Since 1.9.5 and 2.0 are different IDs, I'd expect the 2.0 installer to leave the 1.9.5 in place.
Regards,
Wes

EDIT:
I've found the reason for this. Still want to test it myself tomorrow with a fresh mind before uploading the fix, as I have the feeling that I need to adjust the V1 legacy installer too, just to be safe

+1 - a no brainer upgrade at that price...DarkStar wrote:Nice update / upgrade path for v1 users. Just bought the Deluxe upgrade (even with the £ tanking

Edit: Just installed - is there no VST3 edition?
But, I'm wondering too - why no VST3 edition..?
