Liqih - have I entered this?

Forever,

Kim.

you did, don't remeber?!

you entered 17 archives!

isn't TechFast.zip yours?
Ah yes, it's all coming back to me! Yep, TechFast is mine, as well as all those other crazy ones that came with it!

Forever,

...never heard of it! Gonna check that out.

But how different will drum machines be when they focus on being simple?

Post

Yeah the specs are identical to the dk1. (never heard of it til now either)

Did you have something to do with the dk1, liqih? Or just liked their specs alot?
:D

Post

dk1? yeah!, <grin>

no mistery, it will be a dk1 reissue,

dk1 is a great piece of software very advanced at its time, possibly the best Drum VSTi when released, late 1998!

as friend of the original developer I was lucky enough to make him dig in his backup drive to find the original source code and have it licensed,
he's out of the VST business, and as you may have seen dk1 it not available for purchase since 2002,

why a dk1 reissue is good?

it's a solid ultra optimized software, it was made to run fast on Pentium 3,

no compromise in quality, it use all the resolution available in VST,

having the core code already made I can update it quite quickly and keep a low price for the product

it will have all the dk1 features plus new ones I add, like random samples playing,

it's not meant to compete with Battery, BDF or RM IV,
it will be an ultra light plugin with many small sets
from acoustic to weird noises, with an eclectic library designed mostly from users,

Nice Liqih! :D The MotherShip Astrobelt was a AO Audio Collab too right?

Oh, and another question....as you already know, i'm working on one last kit for your sampler.....it's comprised of the entire "Standard Kit" from a yamaha PSR-540 keyboard.....think there will be any copyright issues? wouldn't want to break the law

Hit me back.

Post

Shame that
Im a collector of drum machines and was hopin for something new oh well
Hey ligih if you need any help doin the GUI let me know
THe ao one is shit
I know cuz i bin using it since 98 :D
Still i have got the Wusik machine to look forward to :D
Oh and thanx for being honest Ligih
Some of these big bastards would have reGUied Renamed and not said shit
cheers

Well if it does the random/rotating sample thing, I'd definitely call that an improvement over the original!

OK - call me a procrastinator, but I've had a few other things on until a couple of weeks ago, so I hadn't been able to start on this competition before then. And two weeks ago? Well, a certain sporting event started...

But I have a question:
liqih wrote:
Contest Rules:
1) kits should be small and quite specific: E.G. only cymbals kits, only toms, only scratches , only congas and bongs, only kicks and snares, etc...

...

1a) at least 8 instruments each kit
Can a small and specific kit contain for example a percussive analog synth patch sampled at 8 different pitches? That is, would those 8 different pitches be considered separate "instruments"? Because it's an analog synth, sampling at those different pitches does often result in different tonal characteristics across the pitch range.

If that isn't allowed, I still have a few different patches to sample, so I can produce at least one kit (though it wouldn't really be so "specific") from the different patches, though I am then restricted to picking a smaller number of pitches for each patch.

yes it's allowed, also remeber that you can have 4 velocity layers per instrument, so maybe you want to stack some differencies,

please put some info in the wav names about how you intend to use the samples, or even better add a etext file to explain,

One more note for all:
since we have 24 pads, it would be nice also to have some tuned percussions, like marimba,
two octaves can be filled,

p.s. I'd love a moog marimba made with filter resonance

Yep - I do have velocity layers.

At this late stage I probably won't have time to tune across 24 pads. What I'll do is submit my kits (if I get them done in time), and if you like them, I could fill the pitched ones out later on.

Flexinoodles, you're very welcome to share any idea
for the new GUI

Good news, I got the random selector running and working great,

it's very easy to use and allows you to set the probability for each of the 4 samples per PAD,

E.G. if probability is 127 for one, only that samples will play,

set 32 as probablity value for all 4 samples,
to have all them evenly probable,

and so on,

The feature can be used both to add subtle natural analog variation, using similar samples,
or to create algorithmic variation changing instruments, just depends on the samples you load,

BTW should I call it probability or chance?

When the randomize funtion is on, velocity sensivity is still on, as well as the velocity controlled LP filter for each sample
