Personally, I consider it a masterpiece of coding! All that in Assembly?! Crazy how he did that! It seems that users of SAW Studio are mostly professionals and they know for what they are using it. I've never heard crash problems with SAW Studio (well, from what I read in the net).

After I had some weird crashes continuously in Cubase in Windows 10 the last days, I began to see it with ugly GUI! Yes, it is mostly a Windows update that broke something, but this is no excuse!

So now, for me, the best GUI of all DAWs, is of the one that doesn't crash! Now the DAWs that didn't crash in my system because of internal bugs yet are: FLS 12.4, Reaper 5. Also S1 and Bitwig had no crashes but due to other problems (which I'm rechecking now) I have left them. So if I don't choose FLS as my main DAW, I will choose either S1 or returning to Bitwig (Live crashes from time to time, so I can't trust it).
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Live only crashed for me when using that m4l stuff. That was a nightmare.

I feel sorry for all audio/mastering engineers, there really isn't anything better than Reaper for that kind of non-creative audio work. It's another thing for musicians/composers/producers, doesn't really stand up to the competition in any way. I wasted a lot of time trying to make it work.
Yeah.. it depends on how you like to work of course, but Reaper is not really geared towards composition. I think of it as a super advanced tape recorder - really, the first choice for mixing and mastering - so much freedom to work how you want to. But, for composing, it certainly lacks if you like modern ways of putting ideas together a la Live etc.
Exactly, I use it the same way. It has occurred to me whether adding maschine to my workflow would make me enjoy using Reaper as a compositional tool more. Lately I've been doing a lot of sample based stuff and Reaper is pretty good for that, although, I admit that I like Cubase's fade curves more.

What the hell kind of DAW is he using? Looks like WordStar or VisiCalc. Maybe VIM!

Edit: Maybe Voyetra Sequencer Gold+?? Crazy!

It's timing was terrible. It couldn't keep midi in sync with audio to save its life.

Renoise of course (what else)! Totally straight forward, plus a little bit of customization of colors. No floating windows, and a huuuge multilayer spectrum view. Ok, you need to disable the textures and shadows first :)

2nd. Bitwig, not for being ultra handsome, but very readable and simplified. Spectrum view missing though. IMO also the best of all gui coding. Smooth 60fps always, obviously nicely gfx accelerated and small cpu print.

3nd. StudioOne for winning my personal beauty/design price, only some skeuomorphism going on still.

I really hate looking at grey, black and white. And they are pretty much all some shade of grey, black and white......

That said, I changed the colors on Cubase to shades of green, and I am really happy with it now.

But my favorite GUI has always been Reason. It is always fun to flip it around and see where all the patch cables go. Or move them to where you want.

That is very bad indeed. Never noticed it as I used to use it for midi only.

This spreadsheet like interface with all the little numbers just makes no sense to me at all.
