No, actually I know hardly any commercial plugins that became freeware. I only know the Tone2 one, and the Max Synths ones, but I don't use any of them.

Discounts, well, depends on the percentage. And on the pricing/sales policy of the company. With companies like Air or Waves one wonders if anyone buys at the regular price, which is rather high to begin with.
I'm not talking about synths that became freeware, forever, but only for a giveaway etc. You have never accepted a plugin as a gift from a company, which then went on to be sold at normal price?

And, as someone else has already questioned - Are you saying that you will refuse to buy something that has been discounted too much?

This needn't be just about music products. Things go on sale all the time, and there will always be the guy who paid full price right before something went on sale. It happens, and most people understand that it happens, and resolve it with themselves by thinking about all the times they were the lucky one's

He said that he like to donate for freeware to use it but he can't stand that he paid for something others got free later. Hmmm... where is exactly his problem when he wouldn't use it anyway if Psychic Modulation had offered it for free right from the start??? Now, did it became unusable over night? Pointless.

Not counting the ones that were set free through various promotions (Rapture, Zeta+, Wusik Station 8, etc) and magware (Renegade, Nuklear): Cobalt, MT-PowerDrumKit, Grace... and there are prolly others I can't remember right now. Slowly, but surely, older stuff is either retired, or set free. It's only a matterof time (and company policy).

Nope, not that I know of.

Indeed, I think there is a certain threshold below which I think discounts make no sense in my view.

And my view is all that matters to me. This whole issue is almost an ideological/philosophical question. I don't like the whole modern attitude of trying to get as much as possible as cheaply as possible. I am an older guy, that grew up in the analog, hardware world, where the price related more or less directly to the value. Even with software I think that it takes hundreds of hours to make a good plugin, so the developer should be rewarded accordingly. And if they themselves don't think their stuff is worth a certain price, why would I use it?

Makes no sense. Knowing is freeware you said: "Thanks. Looks suitable for my amateur needs ".
Who cares that you not used it so far or maybe want to donate? You are a good example how to contradict oneself imo.
That is what I said, indeed, and meant, it looks simple and amateurish to me, almost a bit like a toy. I have seen much more complex looking plugins of that type from big effects developers.
I was not referring to the price at all, which in this case happens to be zero.

I think you should thank Psychic Modulation that he doesn't made Construct a regulary freebie right from the start. Following your (very own) "logic" you otherwise wouldn't have used it then.

Beeing the smart dev he obviously is, he surely knows those kind of dilemma so i think he had people like you in mind offering it first as payware to get you in the boat as well!!

I don't think at all that that was his logic, he is a nice guy and probably just wanted to be generous for a day, and maybe lure people to his site in the process, so they buy other stuff...

20 years ago a decent computer was really expensive and I bought one. Now you can get pretty good machines for a fraction of the cost or even do a lot of stuff on a dang phone. No more computers for me.

I kid you, Fluffy.

I do understand getting a feeling of disappointment when one buys something that later becomes free or heavily discounted. But it seems for software-related stuff many things do follow a trend of dropping in price over a period of time. I never get more than a little disappointed as I do take a bit of time and match up what I am paying to what the software can do for me. If I bought something at X price and thought it was fair at the time, what anyone else pays or doesn't pay months or years later really shouldn't matter.

But I'm not telling you how to feel about it. :tu:

With your analogy the difference is that those old computers have lost their value forever, while Construct only lost it for a day and is now back to normal, so to speak.
Plus, it is not even an old plugin that is outdated and worn today, it was launched just maybe 3 years ago, I think.

And don't worry, I am not the kind to hold a grudge :) I simply act on my experiences...

Anyway, I think this thread is kind of over and done with by now... 8)

But don't expect me to reply, I am sick and tired of this whole thread and topic and I am working today.
I get it, I am the only one, while every one else likes such promotions. Good for you :tu:
Bye :P

Well, Zebralette was at one point not free, but then u-he made it freeware
