T7 - Recording doesn't include sustain pedal at all

I've just been having a look at T7 and I have a suspicion.
Are you using an instrument plug-in on the track during recording or are you aiming to have the recorded MIDI play sound(s) on your M-Audio Oxygen49 during playback?
If it's the former, try this:
1. right-click on the instrument plug-in
2. choose Select quick control parameter
3. see if sustain is on the list
I'm guessing here, but perhaps if sustain isn't a parameter the plug-in reacts to, it's not getting recorded. Possibly. Perhaps. Maybe. Peut-etre.

Have you checked the Audio MIDI Setup app[1] for unintended MIDI patching?
[1] Launch the Audio MIDI Setup app, switch to the MIDI window (cmd+2) and make sure your input device does not feed into any other MIDI devices.

I am recording using a plugin (Sonivox Eighty Eight). And sustain is NOT on the list of control parameters

Interesting. Might be worth trying another plug-in that does have sustain on the list, if you have one. The Tracktion FM Synth has it, and I expect many free VSTis also do.
It might be that the sustain actually is being recorded, but isn't doing anything on playback, so if you still have the recorded MIDI, replacing the Sonivox plug-in with one that does react to sustain would tell you whether the sustain had been recorded or not.

I think the control parameter one is for adjustments within the VST itself, not something that's part of the input MIDI stream to be played.
For instance, I don't see pitch bend or modulation wheel either in a number of VST's that definitely do respond to those. Most of the control parameters are things like wet/dry mix and settings that you normally make with a mouse on the GUI of the VST; not something that is part of the MIDI playback stream.
So when the VST is played when transport controls are stopped, the pedal works normally, then you record it... If you then look at the track MIDI controller 64 (I assume that's what it comes in as...), do you see events being recorded on that ContinuousController?

To confirm if it has actually been recorded, play back the recorded MIDI out of Tracktion to an unused MIDI device and check with your MIDI Monitor and see whether it shows up there

My bad if it didn't work I don't own a sustain pedal but on my mpk mini it has a sustain button and it do not record it without this selected it must be a note with cc value then I am not sure but the sustain button won't work for me with out this selected.aMUSEd wrote:I'm not sure that is right, I think it's referring to per note automation, not recording of midi cc's specifically. Let's just say I have it unchecked (and have never used it) and T7 has always recorded and played back sustain pedal fine for me. I still think if the problem is also affecting PT then clearly it's not a Tracktion problem but something that is filtering out some midi messages on his system.lay it prodctions wrote:on the input tab in the properties select record note automationsCaptngeetch wrote:T7 doesn't record any sustain pedal events. Not even a constant "On" during recording. Using a M-Audio Oxygen49. This is a real issue for me, the tracks NEED that sustain pedal, they sound absolutely ridiculous with out it. It works on playback if I hold the pedal down, but doesn't include the event in the actual recordings.
Anyone else have this issue or know the solution ? I have the same issue when recording in Pro Tools as well, but I rarely use PT anyway. the bulk of my recording and mixing is done in T7
Any insight or help greatly appreciated

I just tested with my little XKEY keyboard, that has sustain pedal function as a button on the left of the keyboard, but works just like a real pedal. With a piano VST, live input monitoring did what I expected - pizzicato playing cut notes shortly, and with sustain pedal engaged it toggles the "hanging" of notes.
Recording that way also produced the same effect, both during recording and playback. In looking at the MIDI editor/controllers, the controller list had all possible controllers listed, but 64 (sustain) was highlighted, indicating there was controller 64 content. Selecting/ looking at the chart for cc64, I see a square wave corresponding to when the pedal is pressed, released, pressed again...
I don't remember ever setting anything special up under MIDI devices; and had never played with the pedal function before (I'm not a keyboard player, so don't really use the sustain or sustenudo (?) pedals effectively.

I've been facing the same issue for some time now.
The pedal behavior is really strange. For example, in one of the midi clips I recorded, the pedal is down all the time, even though I only hit it in a few occasions.
Besides, whenever I hit the pedal during playback of a clip, it overrides the pedal that was (incorrectly) recorded -- but it does not correct the recording.
By the way I'm using a Yamaha PSR-E343 as a controller. (I know, I know...)
