now what I am looking for is a different kind of tutorial : when you hear a sound, of think of a certain sound, how do you start creating that - what are the typical oscillator settings for pads, basses, strings, plucks, ... what are the typical uses of certain modulation settings / destinations, for these groups of sounds, and so on ... so in short : how do you reverse engineer a certain sound, decompose it into it's oscillator(s), setup the envelopes, modulations, ... does that kind of tutorial exist to anyone's knowledge, preferably for Sylenth of course

I've found many tutorials on creating a specific patch. Unfortunately, they all just 'walk over the buttons and knobs', and set them to a certain value. In the end you get indeed the sound they promised. But do I really understand why it sounds like that ? Maybe for some simple sounds yes, but to be honest, not really.

www.syntorial.com
It includes some 30-40 videos extra on Sylenth.
Not cheap but worth it. If you're a student, you can get a discount (50% ? not sure).
