Minimonsta is 11 years old and it still sounds like the best VA to me.

Incase GForce read this - I want to buy Minimosta but will not until its GUI is improved (i.e. bigger & clean) on modern displays. Tried the demo and its just way too small to use and not get frustrated, especially with modern synths being more competitively priced and DO offer larger and/or scaleable GUI's. Priority #1 IMO.

Need for a bigger UI, i absolutely agree with. "Clean"? i'm not sure what that means. The textured background? Yeah, that interferes with the labels. i think it's terribly hard to look at, and i'm still working from a low resolution screen (granted, it's a frickin' 13", but i'm not shrinking it with a retina display or anything).

i DO think MiniMonsta sounds good at times, but i'm no expert on analog synths and i've never had the pleasure of playing a real Moog. It took me until last year to recognize what filter zipper noise was (sorry, i don't do enough filter sweeping).

Anyway, i went Googling trying to figure out how and why the envelope in MiniMonsta is triggering the way it's triggering, What to do about it, and Google brought me here. Not what i was looking for.

This was what i was looking for: viewtopic.php?t=338717

"when you release and retrigger a note, the attack starts at the same point where the release is cut off. I think that in a real life synth, it had something to do with the voltage being the same value at the attack point, as it was in the time of release."

Yeah, MiniMonsta emulates this. Now how can i get it to NOT do this?

i'm asking in this thread since there should be a lot of MiniMonsta experts in here... ;-)

I am not at my DAW at the moment, but could it have anything to do with the Decay switch?
I will check it out later tonight.

The decay switch appears to toggle the decay parameter between decay and release. i want it to be in release mode because i want the note to not stop abruptly. Is there another way to do this?

i want the filter to open and close while the key is pressed, the note to not stop suddenly when the key is released, and to have a consistent filter start level on each note. Maybe this combination of desires is not possible in a MiniMoog-type synth?

Well, I tried demoing this today in suggestions in the other thread I started asking for synth recommendations. GUI too small. When they enlarge it, I'll consider it.

So I can cross this one off the list.

Only thing that prevents me throwing more money at GForce right now, is their stuff is still too expensive, and their sales are few and far between.

Insanely nice synth.
You should demo it. I believe demo policy is pretty generous.
It has Unique, classy sound with very low cpu hit.

Anyone interested in this subject regarding the best Model D software emulation should check this out:

I liked Minimonsta back in the day but it's been getting surppased ever since. I have to agree with the conclusion in the above that it's the new Synapse Audio 'The Legend' that takes the crown now.

I had put Monark in first place before then, with Diva close behind, but that's not a 'true' competitor anyway really as it's so much more than 'just a clone'.

Here's a side by side of The Legend and a real Model D as well where you can hear how convincing The Legend is:
And the dev's side my side:

Even better over Monark is the unison, FX and polyphony (4 voices).

Well done Synapse Audio. Pushing the audio side of the game on further! 8)

Gforce succesfully put some magic into their plugs :) Imposcar is insane, I demoed oddity and mainly the ugly gui stopped me buying it second hand.
Sure Minimonsta is great. If they will have some sale around black friday, I may invest into some of their stuff.

The Legend is my current benchmark for Mini emulation, it's simply the best. Comparing something like the much older Minimonsta for authenticity can be frustrating. But I love the imperfection and see it as a monsta version of the mini :) I grew up listening to ELP and there's something to it's sound that just triggered that spirit so easily. If they would've just put a LXP class reverb, maybe people will see it differently. It has certain darkness which is so musical, warm and raw..with a bit of artifact which I like, as if the ESQ-1 has a Moog expansion. Love it as a vintage sounding VA. It also nailed some of Kitaro's mellow lead very nicely, the best out of my plugin collection.
