I have had extremely bad experiences from EVERYTHING I have ever installed that uses PACE....so much so that I have cleared my system of all PACE "protected" applications. Why did you choose PACE?MaxReverb wrote:plugins use iLok for copy protection
why did Muse choose PACE for Receptor copy protection?

I wonder if anything gets installed transparently on the host PC running the installers for receptor..
That could be one nasty can of worms if it does..

I was wondering this myself...my guess is that you'll have a PACE dongle (iLOK) that will contain all of your license info. Usually, in order to run PACE protected software you need to have the dongle installed on the machine running the software. Looking at Receptor I see it has a USB port for this. Whether the PACE software will also need to be installed on the PC used to install software I don't know. If it's anything like Pocket PC software then the software will end up being installed on both the installing PC and the host PC.sickle666 wrote:I wonder if anything gets installed transparently on the host PC running the installers for receptor..

Disclaimer: I had nothing to do with the copy protection choice or implementation
To transfer a license from iLok.com to your iLok you do need to have the PACE iLok drivers installed on a computer, but this doesn't have to be your audio computer.
Once you have transferred the licenses to your iLok you just plug it in to the Receptor and the plug-ins are unlocked.
So, the PACE drivers don't have to go anywhere near your audio computer.
When new plug-ins, or updates, are installed on receptor they are installed directly ON Receptor, you don't run an installer on your computer so no worries there!

That's great, but what if your audio computer is your only computerBen | KvR wrote: So, the PACE drivers don't have to go anywhere near your audio computer.
That has potential to get very messy.
I'm not directing that at you, Ben, just a general mumble of disdain..
Crap, I really wanna like this thing & snatch one up, but there's some crazy limitations in place that keep this thing from bieng as ground-breaking as it could have been...
I'll probably get one anyways

PACE provided us a single solution for large number of plugin publishers and their products. The only thing that gets installed on your local PC is a driver for the iLok USB device. Everything else PACE is part of Receptor and its plugins.

Actually, I can see how the iLOK system would be good for the needs of Receptor. In theory it's probably the ideal system for the job.PACE provided us a single solution for large number of plugin publishers and their products.

Just to play devils advocate I can see how using an iLOck or something similar would be a logical solution to the licensing transfer issue. Apart from the freeware most of the synths and effects installed would be licensed for use on one computer and you'd need seperate license agreements or sidegrades for using them on Receptor unless you had some means of moving the license from one to the other and back again - such as a USB key of which iLock is probably the most widely used/cross platform incarnation. It does allow for a greater degree of flexibility. Also if it's virtually built into Receptor I suspect it would be less problematic than the situation with PC's which are constantly having OS upgrades, new drivers, new software added rendering the chances of conflicts with the PACE drivers more likely. Receptor should be a more stable software environment (esp as it's also Linux based).

Well. I'm very surprised about this - considering the level of anti-PACE opinion on K-V-R alone. Seems Muse aren't paying too much attention to their potential customers opinions (I've yet to hear a convincing argument in favour of PACE copy protection, here or anywhere else), and that in itself is very off putting to me. Another potential sale gone.

I'm really sorry you feel that way but for us PACE was the best solution for managing a large number plugin licenses.
