why did Muse choose PACE for Receptor copy protection?

As far as I know, the USB drivers needed to transfer licenses from iLok.com to your iLok will not interfere at all with your audio applications.

Pace has had a reputation with taking down computers left and right, even with iLok. I personally have had no trouble with it, but the simple idea of copy protection is a sham I think. More than I want to go into :)

You must remember the majority of the audio industry has a great distaste for Pace left form their terrible floppy authorization systems.

i guess it's a good solution for Receptor

my only concern, as I probably won't get a receptor (but wasn't really convinced i'd get one anyway):

- i've seen a list of plugin devs who are working with Receptor. Ohm Force, DiscoDSP, and other very respected VST devs. This is great but:

- none of the supported vst devs use PACE in their native PC plugins. In fact, none of them use C/R or even any cp stronger than a serial number. Seems they would be more concerned with PC platform piracy than Receptor platform piracy, but I'm still glad they don't impose PACE on our PC machines - so obviously (i don't think this was even up for debate), PACE is being required by the platform developer (Muse), not the plugin providers.

As I said above, this is obviously good for muse, as they have figured. My concern is that these 'clean' plugin developers will, having implemented PACE in their plugins for Receptor, migrate the CP scheme onto their native PC plugins. After all, the integration is already done, why not gain from stronger protection on the native platform too.

I wish Muse the best of luck, and I hope Receptor is a success, it's a great idea - I just hope those of us who stay on a native platform don't see more PACE'd plugins heading our way from our favorite devs.

I'm not convince with PACE protection, because if you have a lot of plugins (and it can be the case for many people here, isn't it ?) you must convert all your licence with iLock system....

I had already problems with that ... I hope they will be resolve soon.

For the rest, yeah ! Receptor is a really great box. Muse Machine is a really great interface. Tooo easy, and very practice.. really quick, you don't lose your time.... (but it's my own opinion)

There is a technical aspect and a sales and marketing aspect. On the technical side, the PACE interegration for Receptor does not change anything for the Windows platform. If they decide one day to use PACE on Windows they would have to start pretty much from scratch. So you have nothing to fear on this side.

On the sales and marketing side, if these "clean" developers like you call them, find out that Receptor cutomers are very happy with their iLok, and piracy is very low or non-existent on Receptor, they may consider using PACE with their Mac and/or Windows products. I seriously doubt that something like this will happen soon.

THANK YOU so much for answering this question! I just ordered a Receptor from Plugorama and was tearing my hair out trying to figure out where to obtain an iLok key. I could find no help on this at iLok.com or at Plugorama. It would certainly help us buyers if Plugorama stated somewhere in the Receptor order that it ships with an iLok key. Before I bought the Receptor (and was instructed to go to iLok.com), I had never heard of iLok or PACE. So this has been quite a learning experience!
