Community opinions: is DAW essentials worth it?

Hey all! I have mentioned this before in some other threads, but I'm an Ableton Live convert. I relied very heavily on the built in FX that Live had, so I have never really explored free or paid FX plugins. Just wanted to gauge the community to see how good DAW essentials was. I have not yet purchased Waveform, so it would only be an extra $50 I believe.
Thanks!
Thanks!

I'd checkout the demo of the DAW essentials ... IMHO the EQ , Limiter , and Delays felt like they were worth the extra $50. I haven't dived too far into the compressor or reverbs ... I got the DAW essentials bundle with Waveform ... You can use them in other hosts too ..

I've got recently the DAW essentials with my copy of Waveform, so I have not had a lot of time to test them deeply...
At a first approach, from my point of view, they are very "inspired" by the FabFilter plugs... and seems to be very intuitive to work with.
The only "complain" I would have, is that for the moment, there is a lack of presets with them (in the actual version here - 64 bit, Mac).
But testing them very quickly, it seems to me they are a very very interesting and indispensable plugs to have (except if you have yet bought your preferred plugs)...

There is some good freeware 64bit too out there . GVST has an autotune Gsnap I believe and a Gtuner ( guitar tuner ) that are free ... Reaper has the Reaplugins that are good and free , Toneboosters has some free stuff I think there Bitcrusher sounds snazzy ... Things I think you may miss from Ableton are clip launcher mode , simpler , drumracks , the Glue compressor , EQ8 , maybe the included instruments and loops maybe ? You can piece meal all this stuff with a combo of freeware and 3rd party paystuff ... Except for the clip launcher mode , that's what makes Live and Bitwig unique ...

Do you mean there aren't enough presets or you aren't seeing any presets?Lutin mutin wrote: The only "complain" I would have, is that for the moment, there is a lack of presets with them (in the actual version here - 64 bit, Mac).

I mean that I am seeing no presets at all...
And I thought that they will be proposed in future releases... due to the fact that the "DAW essentials" is a very new package...
And I remember that at the very beginning, all the plugins of the Reaper DAW were excellent, but with no presets at all... and is also one of the reasons I am not an enthusiastic of Reaper... but this is an other thread...

Strange - they have all got plenty presets. Can be selected at top-middle of interface. eg Compressor has presets subdivided into bass drums guitar vocal categories. I've only tried them in Waveform (on Win 7) but presets are there.

ah ?
I will have to post an email to the support of TSC... in order to understand what's happening here on my machine...
Thank you for the information "operandx" !
So, I retract my previous information : don't take into account my opinion concerning the "no presets" in the DAW essentials... it's just a malfunction on my machine !
Sorry !

In the finder, if you go to the folder ~/Library/Audio/Presets/Tracktion what do you see? You should see a folder for each plugin and inside a folder named factory with all the presets.

They also seem very inspired by the Logic plugins - especially the tape echo and delay

Hello FigBug !
In the finder, when I go to the folder you indicate, I have only 2 folders :
- BioTek (with 2 other folders in it - Instruments and Samples), and
- Collective (with 2 folders in it too -> Instruments and Samples)
I have no other folder in it.
And when I go to my "user">library>etc..., there is no Tracktion folder.
And when I click inside each plugin, I have no access to nothing... in each of the 16 plugins.
Just written "factory default", and when I click to "factory default", a little window opens with 3 lines :
- one line with "factory default"
- one line with "save as" - in black (and 2 other lines very faded grey : "save" and "delete")
- and on the last line "show preset folder". And when I click on "show preset folder", it happens... nothing... and the presets window closes, like it was before I click on it at the first time. The plugin GUI shows just "factory default"... as before...
Strange, isn't it ?
So... no preset at all...

I have not found a "preset folder" for all the Essentials plugins to download on the Tracktion website.
So, after the TSC team will have fixed the actual Waveform issues, I will ask the Tracktion support team a help on this problem... because for the moment, it's not really urgent to solve...

Actually that's one of the reasons I left Ableton...I have no use for clip/live performance mode. I also prefer to compose using mouse and keyboard rather than a midi controller. I think over time the workflow benefits will be worth more than the few Ableton specific things I liked.fedexnman wrote:There is some good freeware 64bit too out there . i guess the daw essentials are a good start to get you covered with the basic plugin needs.
another option would be toneboosters track essentials bundle.
take a look if things you need are in these bundles..
from there you can add plugins (paied or free) as your needs grow.

I bought DAW Essentials for $99. And my favourites was: Compressor, Delay Studio, Equalizer and Reverber8. That's an acceptable $24.75 per unit. However, it is worth pointing out that I prefer the free TDR Kotelnikov over Compressor and the free Oril River over Reverber8. So we could probably argue about the actual worth of DAW Essentials in my case.draetheus wrote:Hey all! I have mentioned this before in some other threads, but I'm an Ableton Live convert.
