Does ANA 2 do FM? I noted some FM-ish patch in a demo you posted at FB, is it an FM-like wavetable or real frequency modulation?

The FB teaser was a wavetable but we do have Real FM too... you can use the other oscs or the sub as your FM source.recursive one wrote:Well, looks like a really solid update![]()

I don't think so, but:

Cool. I wonder if I can get in on the beta to whip up some sounds?chk071 wrote:I don't think so, but:Phil Sonic Academy wrote: We are hoping to get some early Betas out next week to sound designers then will open it up a bit towards release late May early June.

Good luck with that request but I don't think SA are exactly throwing it out there.wagtunes wrote:

Basing my assumption on a cool SA interview between Chris Agnelli & Dom Kane.

Factory presets have to have a certain quality as people might evaluate the demo version based on them, and ultimately not buy it because of mediocre presets.
I wonder if I can finally get rid of the money that's been sitting in my PP account for ages

The code is completely new so not compatible although we have started working on a converter.... its not there yet but we hope we can get something that gets the presets as close as possible.sacer wrote:will it be compatible to old v1.5 presets ? or can it handle ana 1 soundbanks ?

I will certainly look forwards to a demo of this synth.

Judging from this thread, the new version will focus much more on wavetable stuff, right? So, does it even make sense to continue calling the synth Ana, which I assume is short for analog? Why not give it a new name, which would also make it unnecessary to port presets.Phil Sonic Academy wrote:The code is completely new so not compatible although we have started working on a converter.... its not there yet but we hope we can get something that gets the presets as close as possible.sacer wrote:will it be compatible to old v1.5 presets ? or can it handle ana 1 soundbanks ?
I don't think it makes sense to use 'version' when synths are not fully backward compatible. I didn't like that with Dune 1 and 2, either.

Yeah of course the ideal scenario would have been full compatibility. unfortunately ANA 1 was built on a completely different framework than 2 so it just wasn't possible. We think we should get the converter to be useful... we did it for kick 1 > 2. admittedly there are way more variables with ANA 1 > 2
The Initial Idea of ANA still stands... Analog Noise Attack. We just combined the Noise and attack stuff in to a single better featured sampler.
The Main focus for ANA 2 where better OSCs with Less aliasing and a fatter cleaner sound with modeled filters.
We where actually working on the wavetable thing as a separate synth after ANA 1.5 was released... then Serum came out. that changed a lot really... we parked the wavetable stuff since serum basically nailed it.
Then we decided to just do ANA 2 and we had the wavetable stuff there so we just combined it in.
ANA 2 isnt a wubwub synth although it does that well too... Most of our users are in to Techno, House, Progressive House and Trance etc. so the presets will reflect that.... but of course we will have a tone of Wubs for the bass freaks.

Frankly, i never cared for backwards coompatibility of a new version of a synth. As long as you can keep both installed, it doesn't matter to me. A newer version most probably also means that the sound engine is either rewritten, or has been improved, so, backwards compatibility will be a tedious thing to do, so, why not just keep version 1 and 2 separated. Never really got the fuss about backwards compatibility. Totally unnecessary IMO.
