"LinPlug newsletter: Development stopped

Dear Friends of LinPlug,

we stopped development of our plugin instruments. This is mainly my personal decision. As much as I still love audio, I love video and photography. When I started LinPlug there was almost nothing on the market and we created many instruments to support musicians. We (thats mainly Pavol and me ) have followed our mission to bring quality, innovation and service to the computer musician for long. But at some point I found that there is already everything available thats needed. I found the market to move into the newer, bigger, crazier direction to gain attention and sales. To make it short, I feel my mission for the computer musician is fulfilled and there are other missions waiting for me. I appologize for any inconvenience that this might cause to you.

What about your existing licenses:

Nothing changed, go on and use your LinPlug instruments as before, if you don’t change your DAW you can do this forever.

What about service:

We’re still here. Maybe its a good idea to backup the installers and your licenses (serials) as foreseeably one day we will not be available anymore.

What about updates:

Its very unlikely that any updates may appear.

What else:

We adjusted prices massively, so a license for an instrument is now 49 US$. Sound libraries for Spectral are 9.99 US$. We’re keeping the store open for some month at least.

Finally, I understand if you are angry or sad or disappointed or whatever, its a big change for some of you and certainly for me. It means closing the chapter that for almost 20 years have been my life and passion, so this is no simple thing for me. Thank you, with your orders you have made it possible for us to live this dream.

Peter from LinPlug"

That's nice from them to notice.
What about Discodsp?

Post

I did just read the newsletter that i received by e-mail and this is indeed very sad. Linplug had been around for ages and they created some really nice products.

Both Albino 3 (last update inccl. 64-bit plugins) and Spectral are running nicely here in Windows 10 64-bit and hopefully they will continue to work for a long time.

Will check if i maybe will buy another Linplug produt at the currently reduced prices.

DiscoDPS website is still not working after more than a month. There does not seem to be much hope that it will be back soon and maybe it will never be back.

As i never owned a product from DiscoDSP besides the free OBXD this is not as sad for me as Linplug stopping development.

Bad thing there, also compared to Linplug, is that there was no announcement by DiscoDSP anywhere and that it does also not seem to be possible to contact the developer.

Maybe Rob Papen could absorb their inventory and continue development and updates.

A decent and comprehensible bye, pretty rare.

Best wishes for future missions, Peter.

Belly up? I don't think so. A rather poor choice (if not disrespectful of his message) of a title for this thread. Belly up is reserved for bankruptcy, and this is not the case. Whether business was booming or not, Peter's explanation - which is quite honest and brave (I'm sure this was painful for him to decide) reflects his desire to pursue other endeavors. I was hoping for some exciting news on where Linplug was going to take its innovations when I saw the email this morning, so it was quite a shock and blow to see one of my favorite designers was moving on. Oh, well - I've still go the plugins and will cross my fingers that they hold up to future Logic updates.

Sad to see this happen. Though now Spectral and CRX4 are cheap as soap. Will we see a flood of cheap licenses in the marketplace?

+1

Albino 2 was one of my very first softsynths back around 2005 and v3 is still working nicely here with the last update that was released.

I received a free Spectral license during the public beta after sending several patches for the factory content where a part of them was later included (which was necessary to receive a free license). Again many thanks to Peter for offering this option during the public beta.

sad, but probably will not affect me much as i love CRX4 and RM4 as they are,
They will continue working great in EXT2 under WinXP which i never plan on moving to
newer versions of windows anyway. good luck with future projects, Pete!

Yeh. all plugs seem to be $49 and sound packs $9 so bargain bucket time!

I think 'belly up' is a bit unfair, I can totally understand small developers just walking away at some point, there are sooooo many good plugs and so many bargains out there (that's without factoring in piracy) I think many of us who haver the typical bundles '(Arturia, NI, AIr etc) and then the 'do not all' synths (Falcon, Reactor, Avenger etc) just have so many bases covered there are not a lot of gaps to fill...I tried the Linplug stuff but it didn't really do anything I didn't already have covered, and to be honest I am not even tempted at under $50....but they are high quality instruments at a bargain price, so if you haven't got the bases covered these are an utter bargain!
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S88MK3, S1, BWS, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6 Pro3, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone II, OP1-F, OPXY, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!
