Or you can go the DIY Receptor route
Why when you could simply use any PC ?

Post

I think that IS the DIY Receptor route

I'd be MUCH more concerned with macOS updates than Windows updates, honestly. But, since I'm not a Mac user, I'm not concerned. :)

As long as DAWs still support RUNNING vst 2.x. It's not easy for a Windows update to render a plugin unusable. Offcourse I'm not saying it's impossible. It's just low probability.

A bit of a tangent, but one of the strengths of something like Omnisphere is the implied longevity that a stable supporting company implies. I'm no great fan of Omnisphere the instrument, but Spectrasonics are a very solid and well established company, and they have demonstrated both the desire and the means to create instruments "for life." And it's extremely comprehensive. Honestly, Omnisphere and a bunch of Kontakt libs is probably the most future proof arrangement you can hope to get while also covering a tremendous amount of sonic breadth.

Albino 3.2.1 does not work on Logic X, OS El Capitan.

I downloaded the demo from Linplug site, on the legacy downloads and i get the following message "failed to load Audio Unit Albino 3, contact the manufacturer for an updated version or further assistance"

The VST version is working in Live 9. Anybody got the Audio Unit working with El Capitan? Sierra? Or it only works with Yosemite?

Got the email this morning. Sad news indeed but such is life. Time for them to move on to other challenges. The market has become saturated and creating anything new that makes a splash is becoming harder and harder.

I think Gakstoar Alpha was the first VSTi I ever tried. I've owned several Linplug instruments over the years and have enjoyed them a great deal. Always rock solid and support was always fast and friendly.

Linplug was one of the pioneers in the software instrument business and will be missed. They certainly belong in the Plugin Hall of Fame. I wish them all the success in their future endeavors.

Thank you Linplug for bringing joy for so many years !

Yeah, thats a real shame. One of the early innovators. Will be missed....

LinPlug was one of the first, if not the first, independent VST developer I started to support many years ago. I still love their plugins today, but it does not surprise me to see this event materialize.

I hope Peter and Pavol enjoy the next chapter of their lives. Thank you for the wonderful products over the years.

I don't have Logic X, but Albino 3.2.1 works in Mainstage on Sierra for me, as do the other Linplug AUs I've got.

Albino works fine for me in Logic, on Sierra.

Never bought any of their products, but still saddened by this decision.

Always felt they were a driving inspiration that spawned the competition to strive for more as well. I think we'll all miss them more than we may ever realize.

Or you can go the DIY Receptor route - simply install the synths on a machine that's stuck on an older OS and treat it like a hardware module (but one where you can use something like VNC to program it via the GUI). Linplug's purely serials so no pesky C/R to worry about. I've got an old laptop for that purpose now but I'm considering slapping an old Mac Mini in a rack tray alongside a cheap MIDI/audio interface and using that for some of the plugs that have been officially discontinued.
There are lots of options for VMs now that I've been looking into... theoretically, that would let you run it forever... virtualbox is even free. It's not as integrated as running it locally - things like automation don't work the same way on a separate machine - but at least you can run it all in one box...

We (thats mainly Pavol and me ) have followed our mission to bring quality, innovation and service to the computer musician for long. But at some point I found that there is already everything available thats needed. I found the market to move into the newer, bigger, crazier direction to gain attention and sales. To make it short, I feel my mission for the computer musician is fulfilled and there are other missions waiting for me.
Don't quite get that explanation. But, hey, his decision.

Next time some busybody wibbles at you with condescending effrontery about how many synths you have, you can calmly tell them that this is why.

Just in case something goes shit-shaped for a developer, and the DLL flakes out from an OS update, and... and... they're all back-up synths. :D

I still use Albino 3. Not often, but I love the damn thing. Albino 2 (or 3, don't remember) was my first soft-synth!!!!
