The problem there is you're naming real instruments and not synths.

These are strange times... Reason finally allows vst plugins, because there are some amazing instruments.... Linplug quits because there are many new plugins...
I tried to compare Linplug and Rob Papen, and I think RP adapted better what the users like in this new generation of plugins.

There are enough software synths for 10 lifetimes... we do not 'need' anything else.

I agree with Peter. Everything these days, as ive said before, is all variations on a theme. The emperors new synthesizer.

Quality has improved, to fall in line with faster tech, but thats about it.

At the end of the day, its a business, and companies will say anything to convince you you need to spend your money on their products.

Peter has decided he wants to spend time on other stuff he enjoys doing. Good luck to him. I hope he has a lot of fun and good times. :tu:

That's all that really needs to be said, +1. No CR protection so the plugs should be good for the foreseeable future (barring radical changes in OSs etc)

I still reach for Alpha as my main, day to day sound source, so appreciate their efforts over the years.

Tell that to the Kore users!

Alchemy as my biggest loss, I had a lot of sound banks- I know it still works, but I was really hoping for Alchemy 2 (on PC!) - other than 1 or 2 companies, most of the VST developers are small companies....
Yeah you tell them Kore users....oh wait, they are still Kore users ;)

Yeah much to my surprise Kore has lasted amazingly well considering the major OS changes we've had, needs a bit of work on the latest Mac though (not even tried that yet). The ones that have the poorest record for longevity are iZotope. Spectron became unusable in most hosts not long after it was discontinued.

Dont know about the rest of you guys, but I think that Spectral is pretty unique. Sure there are other synths out there that can do the same and more, but I find that this synth has a very special character to it, both harsh and mellow at the same time :) I really wish they sell their business to someone else that can continue/absorb their work.

This is very sad. :( I loved them all.

Just got through the entire thread, while i enjoyed some Linplug plugins a long time ago, they have long since been replace, but it is always funny to me in the audio software world how you guys thing of these developers as your friend "Its so sad" "Will be missed" "Such a nice guy" and blah blah blah.

These are a couple of guys who sold me a tool, other guys came out with better tools so i switched to buying those to make my life easier/better/more productive creating, if i am buying a screwdriver from Joe Smith and then Allan Jones releases a ratchet screwdriver i switch if Joe Smith doesn't release one, and if his response is "Allan Jones already released one i quit" then f**k him, that is not how innovation happens.

The fact that he is not quitting but slowly fading away and not trying to cross to open source for future proofing or such for paying customers makes me say f**k him even more, then on top after this announcement they are lowering prices bu still selling for some final last cash grab ???
This is marketing 101, dead products, cant be arsed, lets get the last bunch of money we can !

So sad to see people with closed/no heart.

Some people do actually have more interaction with devs than just handing over cash, and appreciate their work.

Some ppl, like bungle are just twats.

Sad to see Peter leave. He is an amazing guy really, I met him quite a few times in person. I wish him a great future, whatever he elects to do next.

The only problem I see in all of this is that they are asking 49$ for dead plugins. It would be more sensible to make them 9.99 or even free.
