Impressive patches there. I really can´t get those sounds out of my Zebra...care to share those great patches?

If you are gonna use the comb module, then use an Osc as the exciter. Put a super short env on the Osc so it is quick transient and feed that into the comb module.

Envelope shape and slope matters a lot. Also, some sounds I put a second Osc at a much lower level with a bit longer envelope and some attack to create string buzz or sympathetic resonance. Sometimes I use the second comb module for that. But before doing any experimenting with that extra complexity, spend some time just with 1 Osc into 1 Comb Module.

It is possible to make all sorts of great string type sounds without the comb modules too. But using the comb modules are the easier place to start.

I wonder how the guitar patch looks like without using a comb filter?

Pdxindy, your Zebra patches always amazes me! I love how you tend to make very organic patches that almost sound like they are some strange unknown acoustic instruments. Did you ever get around to releasing a Zebra library?

So many usb modeling amps, Fender, Marshall, Peavey, line6, Yamaha,
not to mention hords of pedal based hardware from Zoom, Boss, Korg,
yada yada, at some point, some percentage of these $players$ will want to
go in the box to record their usb output, starting with, but not limited to,
an amps bare guitar tone, so I think there would be a market for
a dedicated guitar effects sub-app from U-he, if not just an accurately advertised
soundset covering a wide range of popular guitar effects. Some amps lack
a computer gui for editing, or have mediocre ones, and U-he already
have that part largely covered...I wouldn't suggest calling it Guibik :dog:
but I think there is money to be made if carefully named and marketed.
I made some spiders run for cover using
a hi-gain amp preset with zebrify sounds :hihi:
Cheers

Thank you for your kind words!

Never finished up the Zebra soundset. For 5-6 years I ran an urban based organic farm and that was far more than a full time project. Then for the past 2+ years I have been a more than full time volunteer for climate and social justice work. That culminated recently in Portland (where I currently live) passing a 100% renewable resolution. A solid victory for the crew of peeps I work with! That now feels like a good stopping point for me. Having been engrossed (happily so) in such projects for well over a decade, I feel like doing something different. So I have decided to go travel for 6-12 months... Europe and Asia I expect.

All that is to say that it would be fun while on my travels to finally finish up some soundsets and make them available. I'll have my laptop, baby Linnstrument and headphones! I think it would be fun to visit u-he headquarters too!

pdxindy good luck on your travels. Take care when crossing the road. Remember always look both ways before you cross. Please post a pic when you get to u-he HQ. :tu:

Thanks!

The main road down the street from where I live requires looking both ways, both ways, twice... hehe

and yeah, if I make it to u-he HQ, will post a pic!

Are you really visiting Berlin, pdxindy?

I'll be in Europe for couple months... so while Berlin is not directly on my (very flexible) itinerary, it wont be so far away... so the thought crossed my mind to visit!

If I were you I'd totally hang out with the u-he crew. :D

Holy cow these are exquisite! Inspired me to work on this starting with your comments about using an Osc into a Comb. I am nowhere close yet but this is fun. If I fail at least I will understand the Comb module much better. Thanks for sharing these!

tell me 'bout it! :D
added: also, come hang with me (us)... near (and then into) the Carpathian Mountains! ;)

Here's another one for you to try atmelcool.

3ee already uploaded one using the approach pxindy suggested and it sounds great. I tried that approach and could not get the Osc transient to feed into the Comb in a way that I liked. So with this one I simply mix the Osc and Comb sounds. Also this one does not really use the Osc to enhance the pluck but rather the ambient resonance. You can adjust that with Mix1.

Here's a sample. Zebra only - no external effects just a stock limiter so I could get it loud enough without clipping. Doesn't change the character of it:

Enjoy!

Edit: Fixed the link and the file plays now (for Dropbox seems we need to add "?dl=1" to the end of the filename)
