Quick question, is there any where to go for user created presets? I tend to find that the community produces far better presets than the factory ones.

In SD2 there was a cymbal swell feature called MHE.
I can't believe they have dumped it.

"BFD3's cymbal swell function offers several models of cymbal wash behaviour. It intelligently shapes cymbal articulations when played in frequent succession to emulate the buildup of energy when playing a real cymbal." - BFD3 FAQ pages.

And, so, I wouldn't think to model this behavior only to name it 'smoothing', it means a certain buildup and the behavior of the response of a cymbal within that buildup as it would tend to occur, as a whole.
Don't care, smoothing sounds pretty good anyways.

The next EZXs I was considering purchasing before SD3 dropped are:
Claustrophobic
Dream Pop
Jazz
Hip-Hop

With the enormous variety of the core library in SD3, would it even be necessary to get the EZXs at all at this point? I noticed they even have some electronic drums in there as well.

Post

Not really, if you're doing electronic or rap type stuff...the electronic drums that come with SD3 could probably handle anything you may need...and if they don't, you can import your own samples into SD3. If you're wanting to do rock and/or metal...you'll probably need to get some of the xps.

Are there actually electronic drums in SD3 or just acoustic kits mixed with electronic drums in mind?

No, actual electronic drums, you can use them by themselves, or mix them with acoustic drums. Also, you could create your own kit with nothing but electronic drums.

If they are there I can't find them. Just looked through all the snares and they are all acoustic. There are some Richard Devine presets but they are tweaked acoustic drums. I only have the stock SD3 though.

Pull up the instrument browser (under More) and filter for Snare - they’re all in there. It’s a good but not comprehensive selection. For example, there’s lots of 909 samples, but no 808.

Found nothing in the More menu but in Add Instrument I can see them when I select Search For Instrument and narrow down to Snare under "Instrument". Thanks, quite a few extras there indeed.

Oop, I was away from my rig and got it mixed up - a better way to access the full browser is to click the instrument name right under the 4 main tabs, then the search box. Another way is to right click an instrument, then click search right at the top. That way you can just replace the snare with a new one, rather than having to add a 2nd one.

I just want to say that the midi mapping system is absolutely horrible. Got a huge kit with 8 cymbals, 2 rides, 5 toms, and mapping it with Addictive Drums 2 is a breeze. Superior 3 is garbage for mapping. I do not recommend it for e-drumming, it's best used as a midi pattern player.

Just checking you are using the edumming map settings page? I don't use edrums so might be totally off, but it looks pretty easy to start with the most relevant preset and tweak from there...

Here's my question about SD3. With EZDrummer you only get a few sounds and to get others you have to buy all these expansions, which gets stupidly expensive.

is SD3 the same thing or does it literally come with every drum sound you can imagine just like something like Battery 4?

Just want to know what I'm getting into if I take the plunge.

Wag - there are 7 acoustic kits and a few hundred electronic samples that come as part of the core library. That doesn't cover every drum sound known to man, but it's of course a good deal more than EZD.

Okay, then for those who own Battery 4, how does it compare?
