Hi aldi,
aldi wrote:if that is professional, than i don't like professionals.
Then i'm sorry you'll have to use a shareware or freeware program in the future.
i agree to koolkeys. it's not whining it's just waiting for a sign.
Hm, what new sign?
That T2 will have better MIDI-capabilities? You know already.
That a special version of T2 run on an exhibition with a Mackie-Control? You know already.
everybody knows that emagic, steinberg, ableton are big companies and they surely go on developing their products. jules is just ONE person. if he thinks "oh, at the moment I'm bored working on tracktion" the whole project stops till he changes his mind. i know he's a genius but genius often get bored in doing the same thing all the time ;)
Hehe, yes i agree. But you surely heard, that Mackie is distributor.
Think realistically: do you really believe, Mackie gives his good name away, without making sure, the developer will have hold certain time-limits?
Mackie has way more to lose than Jules.
an that i come to this thinking is because t1 lacks some minor and fast to do things that where often talked about but where never been made. it all began with jules saying more often "sorry folks, I'm very busy with things" but when he was soo busy where are the improvements and bugfixes. seems like t1 wasn't the priority a long time.
That could be easily possible. Maybe just because he was working on T2?
What you call minor things, need nevertheless be thought out well, programmed and tested.
And as you stated, Jules is a one man show.
That means, he has to do everything on his own. Even the graphics i guess. :D
And a word to those 'minor changes': look at the other sequencers, how long things sometimes need.
How long it took for Logic users to get non-realtime bounce.
Cubase users still have no good freeze-function.
...
i only wan't to know, if it is at the moment. that's just one sentence !!! ("yes, I'm working a lot on T2" or "I'm fixing things in T1 at the moment")
I understand the thrill and joy of everyone when thinking about T2, but what would such an information change? Fans/users are never satisfied with informations.
If you give them the small finger, they want the whole hand.
If T1 is fine for you, use it.
If T1 is not good for you. Don't use it. It's that simple.
And what if Jules can't name a date? You said yourself, he is alone. Have you ever programmed something? It's extremely difficult to hold timelines even for small programs. And then such a beast!
What would happen, if Jules states, he is working on T2?
Very soon everyone would moan, when the hell will T2 finally be ready, becasue Live4, Sonar and all the other sequencers are out, too?
What a stupid argument: to release the own program, when all others do, too. Does that make the program a bit better?
Or does it maybe even give the opportunity to observe the competition?
if you cantact steinberg or emagic support and tell them a problem, they say SOMETHING to it or if it will be fixed or when this feature could be available. surely they don't write it down on their website to early, but you can ask them and if they knew they say something like "i'm not sur, but it should be available in one of the nearer updates" i know it, because i've had logic.
Yes, and there are olso other companies, presenting things when they are ready instead of promising and promising just to keep the people smiling.
I can understand Jules and becasue i'm not that MIDI freak, but a sound- and audio-freak, i can do already everything with T1 way better than with any other sequencer. :)

Well, I believe if Jules did talk more he might set up too much expectation. For instance if he mentioned an idea on things he was thinking of working, people would now hold on to it as truth. When released, with out the possible ideas, people would be disappointed and jules would look bad. real bad. So freaking just wait and work with tracktion now, or go to some other app.

It's not as simple as "if it works for you use it, if not then don't". Things aren't as black and white as that. I love Tracktions workflow. It far outperforms any other sequencer I've used but I'm starting to need more than that. All I'm doing is iterating a point that Mackie might lose potential customers by not keeping it's user base informed. I could wait a few months for some of the features that I need, but I couldn't wait a year.

I don't want exact dates or precise feature lists. I just want a rough idea of the ETA for T2, nothing more. If thats too much to ask then I'll wait for a few months and then start to look elsewhere.

OK chaps it's that time again...take a deep breath and smile...:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Ok...back to business 8) Even if Jules posted here and said on this thread...

" Hi guys sorry about the silence we are working on T2"

We know that already.

"I cannot give you a date it's down to Mackie they are the distributors"

If Jules was going to give us a date he would have surely done so already.Nothing new there.

"Look guys it's OK I am not going anywhere hold on, it will be worth it"

I can't speak for everyone but most of us expect T2 to be worth the wait anyway 8).Nothing new.

"OK I own up I did not back up my master copy of T2 and have lost 9 months work...er..sorry"

Unlikely...right Jules? :D

My point is whatever announcement Jules or Mackie make it is highly unlikey to include any details about T2 that we do not already know. Even Beno recently gave us some indication on pricing.

Unless Jules gives us T2 details before it's finished, which I am sure he will not unless there is major change of plan, then we will not know anymore than we do now. We have about as much information as we will get about T2, before it's release.

Jules can only reassure us by asking us to be patient...but I cannot see him turning around and saying "sorry guys I led you on for over a year about T2 ,I don't know if there will be a T2 sorry"

T2 will not arrive any faster. Jules cannot say anything more than he has already said. If he does great, but realistically...no way.

Yes Jules was more active on this forum way back when...it was fun but times change Mackie came in and well, things are different but T2 cannot be that far away...

T2 will either come very close to, match, or have even more features (unlikely...yet 8) ) than Cubase SX3 or Sonar 4 for less money..again nothing new. :)

As Final mix is already in Tracktion, some or all of the remainder of the Acuma plugs will likely appear in T2 as well...but again it's just a guess.

I want to see this plane (T2) land as well but we all just have to wait for it 8).I am sure it will be worth it. :D

Ahhhhh lovely weather today... :D :D :D :D :D :D

All I will say is that I think that Mackie are mistaken in not releasing more info on Tracktion. I think I'll be moving onto Ableton Live in the very near future if there is no announcement on the ETA of T2.

I'm glad that Mackie aren't just giving the user base false promises to placate them but I can't see how giving a ball park estimation on T2's arrival would cause any problems.

Bantam, failing to keep the release date will upset a lot of users, even if it's just a rough ETA. It's a proven fact from the history of many other hosts...:)

OTOH, maybe you should get Live no matter when will T2 arrive, if you really like Live. As I seriously doubt T2 will suddenly head into the live perfomance realm, as Jules said it himself Tracktion was never designed for that.

It's rather common to have several hosts, as each has its own unique way of working and features. Speaking of which...I might dig out Massiva and play with it a bit. :D

RonC has a point here, just as ModuLR. Don't expect T2 to kick the major sequencers. If it does, awesome. If if doesn't, I believe Jules still will make T2 something of its own instead of just playing the "catch up" with the big guys.

@Barbarossa, aldi is also a good programmer...check out his bombthatbeat...

Seems to me that part of the problem is that Jules HAS made various promises/commitments in the past on this forum, and they haven't yet materialised...

Also seems to me that a LOT of Tracktion users are either getting jittery - as evidenced on this thread - or turning away - as evidenced by the general slow-down on this whole forum. The only threads that attract much attention at all at present seem to be those either speculating on T" or praising the merits of rival programmes.

Without wishing to sound too negative - bacause I really adore Tracktion, and will definitely get T2 if it ever sees the light of day - I think the atmosphere on this forum says it all right now.

There are people who believed that better MIDI editing etc would appear up to a year ago.

What we need now is not so much hard-core details or a feature list - but simple reassurance. And that can't actually be given by other forum members, however well-meaning... but only by Jules himself, or Ben from Mackie.

what kind of reassurance? theyre working on it!

I think if I was a developer I would announce maybe 6 month ball park ETA's. Theres no way I could miss my mark by more than 6 months right?! Who knows, aint a developer and I dont know how that stuff works .
