I'm hoping for "right click lock play marker"

Would make 2.3 perfect in my opinion. Just that.

The rest would be gravy.

your probably right.

however, if they do yearly namm announcements (likely), this will put a (small?) bias into renew dates, as users with lapsed plans will be tempted to upgrade to get the 'big release'.

but as you say, early days ... only time will tell
This year, 2.3 is bigger than 2.1 or 2.2 was. I agree there would end up being a bias put into renew dates if that is consistently the case. It is possible that is intentional, and also possible that is just how it happened and next year a different update would happen to be bigger. And of course we don't even know if the 3 main updates in the year is a pattern yet.

I do know that now, with 2.3 that the combination of 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 as a yearly amount of improvements has become satisfactory for me.

I already purchased my next 12 months via the recent sale price. With what is in 2.3, now I am glad to have made that choice.

To end all speculation about the release date:
From Facebook: "it will be free for everyone who bought Bitwig since the first day of new payment plan and who upgraded from version 1 of course too.."

Seems pretty cool!!! It really deserves a good synth and from the soundcloud demos it sounds really good :tu:

Cant wait to test.

Any improvements to controllers scripts/API?

I think upgrading around NAMM time is a mistake, I suspect they are going to do this every year... this is natural, so they can have an announcement and the PR.
so I think, if your using BWS, its better to have a plan running from April to April, that way you get the 'big NAMM upgrade' , but also have a couple of months in hand for bug fix releases.

Perhaps, but people possess agency, so if that is what they want to do...

I think the suggestion about April to April is an excellent one. If 2.3 drops on time, I might hold off re-upping until April so I get a more favorable coverage period.

Sends on return tracks I hope :P
Can’t you just do that with Audio Receive devices?

I for one would welcome some kind of schedule of when to expect a major update. I don't like playing the game of having to decide is "is now the time for me to upgrade". If I can assume that post NAMM is the peak of the development cycle I can decide then and there that I want to upgrade based on the accumulated features. The timing is great for me. I always instantly purchase the upgrade to Cubase when it is released in November and I'd so the same with Bitwig if I knew that their big release was post Namm. March or April is a good month and I will finally update my Bitwig 1.x at that time.

I can't read the teams mind but they must figure that having a major update available when the media circus is around to share the news far and wide will be helpful for spurring sales.

You also can have local sends inside of group tracks that can send to the global returns/effect tracks or any such that are "higher up" in the group hierarchy.
One of my favourite features actually :-)

Not following the logic here.
2.0 was a major update, 2.3 is rather big in itself again.
And whenever you buy, you get one year of updates included (minor or major) so what exactly are you waiting for?

I saw the same he saw, It was on a Facebook Bitwig Group. One of Bitwig's Sound Designers posted it as a response to a user asking. I can send the Link but you need to join to see it I think.

There is more than one mindeset when it comes to Bitwig. There are some that are so happy with the program that almost any release schedule is satisfactory. I am not at all critical of them but it doesn't work for me. For me, Bitwig is supplemental and highly optional to my workflow. The gradual releases just don't get me excited enough to want to part with my cash.

I personally like the predicatablity of major release schedule.... where I know that in a particular month the team has prepared a major release. If I can expect to part with the upgrade price once a year and be rewarded with a bunch of new features for the outlay ... parting with my money is much easier decision. I can also plan for the financial outlay. I simply don't like their current model as it has me constantly reassessing the value of the accumulated updates. It is simply not typical of how I like to make software purchases.

If you love the program and the development team you don't care. You'll buy into whatever model they put forth. If you are a little less enthused or on the fence, the gradual release model combined with their unique 12 month model of updates based upon when you buy is not at all motivating and does little to excite. A media push post Namm with some signficant new features to trumpet makes the decicision much easier for me and I bet many more like me. I assess the decision to update once a year post NAMM. End of story.
