Sorry but none of the synths mentioned come anything close to the actual way this works and its ability to morph between different sound models and different timbral elements of those models (and there is also the Blender which works a bit like Photoshop blend modes but for sound). Alchemy 2 comes closer but even then only insofar as it manages the morphing and breaking down of resynthesised sounds into different elements (Alchemy 1 didn't do that so well) but the Neuron also models the sound in ways I've not come across anywhere else.
Some description of the way it works here:

This is one of the plugins I was most worried about losing when I updated to Sierra but it still works fine - including the NUKE (will be a problem when Mac drops 32 bit completely though)

i sold my Nuke yeeears ago, but even when i owned it i never really used it.
i wrote a couple of ambient tracks with it about 10 years ago, but so far as actually fitting it into a song... it never really happened. it was pshyco. the CPU use was so inconsistent and unoptimised, and the sounds weren't really THAT special, even for then.
now, surely there must be a handful of alternatives that aren't so buggy and perhaps sound better even. More useable at least.

I'm not sure how you lose source code these days. I've never known a single developer to not have at least a couple backup methods as well as data recovery software.robotmonkey wrote:If I remember correctly, Synaptic has stated that update is unlikely because the source code is lost. But I might be remembering it wrong.sprnva wrote: It'd be great if someone could update this to support more modern standards including AU but I guess that's probably unlikely.

I've used it a fair bit and do like to use the NUKE, I also have the NUKE to midi app so I can use the NUKE as a midi joystick, for which it is excellent. When I bought it I was on Windows and had a less powerful PC so did struggle with the fact that it was poorly optimised and the first version had CPU spikes, but a beta I got fixed some of those. I don't think I could have used it at that point without the NUKE actually as midi cc's seemed to use more CPU than the NUKE and always caused stutters for me back then. Ironically now I'm on a more powerful Mac I have none of those problems though and it runs and automates much better now. Patches are a bit hit and miss but I love being able to morph between different parts of the sound model and it's very easy to create your own sounds.sqigls wrote:i sold my Nuke yeeears ago, but even when i owned it i never really used it.

I've heard there is an Intel celeron computer inside Neuron. Is that true?

can u tell us how to make it works without the joystick?recursive one wrote:It is not based on Hartmann Neuron. It is Hartmann Neuron - the actual engine ported to Mac.
For what I know, it is possible to use it without the NUKE controller - it is sort of joystic intended to work with these round "morph" panels, technically it should be possible to operate them with a mouse.
