Oh man, now I'm in a pickle. If this indeed works with a hardware instrument (and I guess I can check it with a few of my monos) and lets me run two Analog Fours... what would be major... but I had just kind of talked myself into another mono synth, as I've been wanting a Studio Electronics SE80 for a long time.Mutant wrote:I never used it , but i remember AD posting a clip of his mono hardware synth doing a polyphonic song thanks to that plugin.zerocrossing wrote:Could something like this work on hardware synths? I'll look for it now.
[edit]It is there on the page of that plugin at the very bottom.

This is the plugin applied to a real analog monosynth, my own design "x1" synthesizer.
This will allow you to set up three or more instances (up to 16) and take MIDI input on a specific channel on each. The voice allocator plugin assigns each note you play to a unique MIDI channel.

Just read the description I have on the site there, click on the p=notelogic link Mutant posted.
Yes it works in realtime with hardware, I've used it that way. I only own three monos at the moment, although I can also set up a single voice to send to some other poly synths I own giving me a five or six voice mono... although of course to get really good results you should have each voice identical
Having one note play to the DX7 and another to an alpha juno is kind of weird
I'm using a simple filter-by-channel plugin in Reaper.
I have the input/source MIDI track with the voice allocator plug-in on it. That gets routed out to each output track with a channel filter plug-in on it.
So:
Track 1 -> MIDI channel 0 -> MIDI output 0 -> analog 1.
Track 2 -> MIDI channel 1 -> MIDI output 1 -> analog 2.
Track 3 -> MIDI channel 2 -> MIDI output 2 -> analog 3.
Track 4 -> MIDI channel 3 -> MIDI output 3 -> alpha juno.
I've been considering creating a simplified (digital parameter control) "voice card" to use that I could build 8 or 12 of for a full analog poly synthesizer but that is a heck of a lot of effort.
I created the plug-in just to control a single synth at a time though. The description of that is on the site. Just take your polyphonic output, split it to channels and record each "voice" one at a time from the same synthesizer.
That gives stuff like this:
https://soundcloud.com/aciddose-1/jabrewogie (four voice X1)
https://soundcloud.com/aciddose-1/eight-a-01 (eight voice X1)

Reason also has Rack Extensions that do the same thing, making mono instruments into a polyphonic instrument:
https://shop.propellerheads.se/rack-ext ... stributor/
It should work with external synths too, using the "External MIDI Instrument" rack module.
Also, since now that Reason supports VST synths, you can do it with pretty much any synth you want. With Reason's CV's you can also use the synth as just an oscillator, and then hook up a separate effect as a filter, and control it with envelopes and LFOs, etc., all in modular fashion with CVs. The Propellerhead Shop has a bunch of rack modules for just this purpose as well.

Is that tail monopoly filter? I’m on phone. Cannot see right now. I could not get that to work. There was no such midi folder section on my Windows ten version that I could tell and could not see the plugin. This has been a looooong, loooooing standing problem splitting to poly. Have no idea why no one has fixed the mono to poly filter problem yet.fischkopf wrote:I guess I'm not the only person with this problem after all: http://forum.image-line.com/viewtopic.p ... 92&start=0fischkopf wrote:All I did was linking the two synths and the effect to the same port, I have no idea how to set the midi channels for individual synths in FL Studio... I can set the input/output port for a synth by clicking the little gear icon in the title bar, it says nothing about channels though.whyterabbyt wrote:Did you make sure the synths were on different midi channels?fischkopf wrote:How am I supposed to use this? I tried linking notelogic and 2 synths to the same input/output port so the effect can communicate with the synths and vice versa but all it does is playing both synths at once. I have the same problem with midiPolyphony by pizmidi.Mutant wrote:http://xhip.net/effects/?p=notelogic
edit : in fact you dont say -how- you connected them or in what.
you need to be able to do
midi input -> notelogic -> synth 1 (on midi channel 1)
(same instance of notelogic) ->synth 2 (on midi channel 2)
more info needed.
I think for now I'll just use Reaper according to this tutorial...

Apparently, http://www.maxforlive.com/library/device/2192/polymind , there is a MAX for Live device that does it (don't use either so you can do that on your own and report results).
The hardware guys are saying there is a little midi utility in this pack that they are using. http://www.thepiz.org/plugins/?p=pizmidi , kind of wary about installing a whole pack of midi utilities to try it though.
Seems to me it should be very doable to anyone that scripts with reaper... but I have no idea how to do that and don't have the time to learn it. I have enough learning curves on my plate. I'll bet there is a reaper utility hidden somewhere that nobody is talking about yet though.

Here is the tale thread if you guys want to try it out. I'll probably play with it again and see if I can get it to work. Like I said, Windows 10 reaper, I could not find the specified folder to put it in and reaper could not see the plugs. maybe it's been changed or something. I'll have to play with it later. https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=155064

whoa... ok, so the TALE stuff has an installer now. It puts it in the user roaming data I believe (that's why I couldn't find the folder, most of that ish is hidden by Microsoft). It works. It's light and non invasive as far as I can tell. The biggest issue for me is that the "dynamic" part means it separates the notes into left right pan separation. This means you play one note and it goes to this side, the other note goes to that side. You can play around with that if you are a decent coder, I am not. I put a plate verb on the whole thing and it smeared the sound into full stereo. I appreciate the poly filter TALE, whoever you are!

So, as read here... you can create a group and use a polyphonic adapter. So, I figured it probably works the same way with a vsti. I created a group of 4 legends and tried to use the poly adapter of the group to make a poly Legend. I am getting no sound though... I am so lost right now. been at this for several hours with no results. I can't even find some of the bidules that are mentioned in the tutorial anymore.

Nothing to do but step away and breath for a minute and come back later and keep plotting away at it. I'm sure it can be done.

Polymer is still the best thing out there for me (but yes...mac only still).
I do wish it was available for windows and iOS as well.

Have you ever felt like pulling every last strand out of your head? LoL. I’ve given up on trying to make a “group” of legends. I don’t think it reads and distributes correctly. I cannot get a sound out of it when I do that. Probably only works with bidule built groups. So, what I need is to build some kind of midi filter that distributes poly notes to multiple mono units. A midi filter that can be place between the midi keyboard and the multiple mono units. This is going to require learning of all the math units and where everything is and a whole learning curve.

Hey, good news for me at least. I was revisiting the TALE polymono filter splitter and it turns out the ping pong panning affect was due to the preset I was using and not the midi filter it's self. hahaha ... problem solved for me, I'll stick with that for now. It would very advantageous for some enterprising and talented scripter out there, who wants to make a formal mono/poly midi filter though, I think we can all agree.

I use a little matrix module that sends to a different out port depending on how many voices are active. It gets a bit trickier when it comes to voice stealing, but it’s doable.
