How bout Reaper. :P

Post

Hm, comparing the sheer volume of entries in the update logs, it's probably neck and neck.

I'm sure Zebra 3 will be amazing when it arrives. The mistake that U-he made was to announce they were working on it almost 6 years ago and then get sidetracked by all these other projects. For what's it worth Zebra 2.8 is still one hell of a synth which does set almost impossibly high standards for Zebra 3.

In Surge (yep, i still use this), i can load waveforms of (i think) unlimited size, as long as it's a multiple of the size of a single cycle. So if a single cycle is 1048, you can load a vocal sample which is 32 or 64 times that length, and have a waveform that actually sounds like a vocal sample when you scan through it.
Would be a nice little touch for the synth to end all synths
Unlimited size would be overkill IMHO, but up to, say, 256 cycles might be useful. Especially if you prefer external editors like Xfer Serum or Synthtech WaveEdit:

http://synthtech.com/waveedit/

Please, please give an option to the user so that he/she can deside how many single cycles are created when importing/resynthesize a sample, best up to 512.

Why ?
Some sounds are simple structured and without any tonal changes in loudnes and / or pitch; for this sounds 4, 8 or 16 singles cycles are enough. But complex sound effects and vocals may need 256 or even more like 400 or 500 singles cycles to be resynthsized in a high quality manner.

Please give us high quality resynthesis without compromises witch lower down the quality !!!

Waiting for this is getting to Half Life 3 or new Tool album levels. 2025, maybe?

We'll see Zebra 3 much sooner. HL3 probably never. :D

Post

Do we know yet whether 'much sooner' might mean this year? U-he is on fire at the moment with all the new releases and activity. Updated Hive and Zebra 3 this year would be awesome.

i have not read all 215 pages of over 5 years, so a quick question:

there is already information on the main features and the changes compared to zebra2? what will be different or better?
sorry, i do not speak english well.

Main difference: Editors for Waveforms, MSEGs, ModMappers will use a unified UI control with a lot of really cool tools and features. Each of these modules can operate either spline-based or sample-based. Each will have import/export functionality. These modules will largely be rewritten.

Filters and XMF modules will be united in one kind of filter.

FMOs will very likely become Dual-FM-Oscillators.

Mixers. Loads of mixers for various paradigms and purposes (Vector Synthesis, 4-in-1 Mixers, Matrix Mixers, Scanning Mixers, possibly even Surround-Mixers).

A bunch of West Coast inspired modules (Function Generators, LPGs and other simple modules with broad range of applications)

New paradigms for overall tuning, triggering, arpeggiator, sequencing.

FX Grid will have 4 lanes.

Multichannel Zebra?
If the position in the surround field could be edited and also modulated (via these new unified UI controls?), this would be huge…

@ urs
thanks for the fast and extensive answer! i think it would be a good idea to write this information in the first posting, because if there are another hundred pages, no one will find that answer again.

(I think we will have to start a new topic at some point... sooner rather than later IMHO)

Given how much Hans Zimmer likes Zebra2 and other film-makers use it, some Surround mixing capability of some sort wouldn't be a bad idea! (if I'm thinking of the same thing haha!)

This will be so epic...but I really don't want to get excited. That much stuff has got to take serious time and effort to set up. My control voltage inputs get overloaded just reading that list. :hyper:
