Hello All,

Downloaded the KVR amp demos and really like the tones I am hearing. What amp do you all use to get that Marshall crunch sound? Have been spending time with the Vermilion as it has a nice tweed - brownface sound.

Are you talking a real amp or a simulated amp?? For real amps - maybe try Gearslutz. People around here don't talk guitar gear all that much. For amp sims, the Effects forum is where that lives.

As for an amp sim with good Marshall crunch try sGear as the brains behind it (Mike Scuffham) actually used to work for Marshall and the tone is considered by many to be definitive as far as amp sims go.

Disregard I meant Kuassa amp demos (Creme and Vermilion). Was posting while at work sorry. Yes I have S-Gear...Mike does nice work.

Don't get caught up on which is the best, you're likely to get 10 or 20 different answers here, each person thinking another emulation is the best. But there is a reason for this...

People often fall into the trap of comparing sims against each other or comparing them against the real thing, but making huge, vital errors with their comparisons and draw conclusions based on the bad, incorrect knowledge.

Amps are from a specific manufacturing run, that have a specific chain that usually feeds from the amp to a specific cab, to a specific microphone to a specific pre-amp, all done in a properly isolated room. The variations between vintage amps are often greater, because they didn't have the more strict component manufacturing stands we do today. So there is even larger variation between them.

This is enough for each amp's characteristics to diverse enough to make them sound different. People don't realise this when they are making their comparisons.

Check this out as an example.

So there is really no such thing as "best" emulation, not these days anyway. "Best" is just an opportunity for people to offer their subjective opinion. No one is right. Just try out a few different emulations, go for the one that feels and sounds the best to you, and is at a price you can afford...

Logic has a JTM 45 (Vintage British Stack), but that may not be helpful to you. Im pretty sure Guitar Rig has a Plexi, but that's all the ones I know. I just know that Waves, IK Multimedia and Plugin Alliance don't have one.

I like to have some analogue components in the signal chain.
Joyo JF-01 Vintage Overdrive DI into a cab sim.
Joyo Amp simulators.
A Mooer Hustle Drive into a amp sim and/or cab simulator.
P&M American Tweed.
Mooer do amp sim pedals.
There's always Amplitube's 53 Bassman, which is available through Custom Shop.
I'm sure Henry Olonga has something similar for Nebula.

I really like my Orange OD-120 valve head for its crunchy tone. Alas they don't make them anymore.
In pedal form I also really like my Tech-21 Tri-OD. Also out of production, but they still make similar stuff.

Oh thanks man. I did think it was odd they didn't have one, but that explains it, I just neglected to check their collections.

There's a trial version you can download. Don't get fooled by the boring generic GUI (Graphical User Interface). It's all about feel and last but not least sound.

Thanks all...received an answer to the original question late in thread (thanks rollasoc). That said took advantage of the great price and licensed the Thermionik demo I had installed. Have really gotten into it over the last few weeks.

I do like the Marshland (the Mesa's and '62 Champ models are great too). The Plexi sounds "strange" to me and am still trying to dial it in. Been heading into work on limited sleep of late. Kind of the way I like it (up late jamming & tweaking).
