Hi all

Finally got the "real" Receptor yesterday. I have had a beta unit for a long while, which was enough to make my presets with, but is not the same.

Had no problems getting it networked, so I started to drop in my fav plugins to see if they would work. Here is my report so far: ( Museguys: if you want to make this sticky..go ahead)

Most SE stuff works, but you have to try them. Some did not work or gave problems

I am happy to report that all the AlgoMusic stuff worked. M42 nebula looks great in receptor, and I was happy it worked so I can use it for live performance.

All the UGO synths worked which is cool. UGO's stuff is excellent. However String Theory comes up in the list as "Container". Maybe I'll ask UGO about that.

The original Wheel of Fortune worked ( the UGO skinned one) but comes up in the list as "Free Jazz" ! :-) However X-WOF pro did not work at all. Had to delete it from the dir.

TIP: if you load Free Jazz ( WOF) in one channel..it happily plays by itself. Load up another VST in another channel and jam along with it

All the EVM synths worked.
Neurosynths : some had a problem. Cerebrum did not even appear in the list!( but it said it installed) Arptron ver2, did not work, but screached at me, and had to load another plugin fast. Meteorite worked fine however

NuSoftings Astrobelt Mother ship worked without a hitch! I was afraid it would ask for serial number, but it loaded fine. Also Nusofting Harptime worked: now that a nice plugin as well.

PolyIbet (which is not SE) worked great. Another Must have on your receptor! Theres some great patches for it on Patch Atrena which you can drop into the installer dir.

Concrete FX's Ensembler worked, but has GUI problems in the edit window. Only 3/4 of the GUI showed up. I may experiemnt with some other CFX stuff like the new Kubik, but have to see how receptor deals with putting in authorization codes if it needs one ( Muse Guys??)

Maxx's eJ worked, but has GUI problems. Looks like the interface was stripped of all it bueaty. However you can load presets.

all the XOXOS stuff worked, which means all his Q series of algorithmic plugins..makes for some happy tweaking!

EDIT: forgot the Kraklie stuff. I only tried a few: the EZ poly worked fine , and also Vurt box ( but be carefull..some presets are extreme)
However his new one: EFFem, did not work well, and hung Receptor . Bummer.

BTW: once the plugins are installed, you can happily drop FXB banks in the installer folder and you will see the bank when you open up that plugin. Good to take advantage of this as theres lots of good preset banks for the free stuff ( as well as commercial) For examples, I was happy to see my own crystal banks to use in crystal.

anybody else have a report? I am still experimenting. too.

I got the "official" release version last week, and was pleasantly surprised by the overall build-quality. My biggest fear was that the fans would cause a noise problem, but it is much quieter than my PC (but not as quiet as my G5 :P ). I haven't had much time to really try much out, but I am working on some new material this week, and I am quite sure Receptor will get a workout. I am looking forward to payday so I can get the MTron collection for it...

I haven't had a chance to get the free premium things from Pluggorama yet. There are certainly some nice ones: EVE, Knagalis, daAlpha, PSP plug...nice bonus. Never used an iLok key (it comes with Receptor), but I am looking forward to a trouble-free installation. I didn't realise that Astrobelt was included. Cool!

Does the CM stuff work, like SR-202?

yeah...I still have to do that..but I don't think astrobelt is included. I purchased it, and simply dropped it in the unsupported plugin folder. It worked!!

Glad you got the official release however. Its a mean lean machine! I am quite happy with it so far!

Ahh, I misunderstood. Still, it's good to know, since AstroBelt is one of my faves for bass...

I am happy to announce that Ohm Forces Symtohm Mellohman (SM) works on Receptor via the unsupported plugin folder. There is a procedure however.

1. Copy the entire SM folder to the samples folder on receptor.
2.In the unsupported plugins folder make a folder called Symtohm ( or whatever)Put the DLL in there.
3.Go to setup on the the receptor GUI, make sure the check mark is there to insall unsupported plugs, and install it. It should be OK.
4.Go to the mixer page and instantigate the synptohm plugin. Close any error messages.
5.In the browser page in SM, tell it where the path for the symtohm folder in the sample dir is.( so the presets will load up)
6.Then click on setup (in SM) and tell it where the samples are ( in the SM folder / sample dir)
7. Click on a preset, everything should work.

Its great having SM on receptor as it was meant for live performance.

I am also happy to report that White Noise Additive works on Receptor via the unsupported plugin method. Another nice one on my Receptor!

also Camel Audio's Super Camel Phat!

Guess I will continue to make reports on this thread..is it helpful?

I am sorry to report that White Noise Dopplemangler and the beta version of Zero Vector do not work on Receptor. They installed OK, but in edit mode, the guis are half there, and no sound. Selecting patches in zero vector also crashed Receptor ( still no sound) so I had to uninstall them. Bummer!

Its a mystery because White Noise Additive works great on it.

Also, Tim has managed to get Rhino 2 running on receptor. Unfortunately the installation procedure is a bit tricky, so I'd appreciate if someone else could run through it. Are there any other Receptor users (besides Tim) using Rhino here ? Please contact me...

Got an answer from Dave of White Noise Audio:
==========================
I think the problem with doppelmangler is that it needs to have some registry settings so that it can find it's artwork (just copying the dll won't work).. Same goes for Zero Vector. ZV probably crashed because receptor doesn't do SSE instructions.

=====================

so that explains it.

The CPU in Receptor is an Athlon XP 2500+, which does support SSE AFAIK.
