Sounds good... any specific area's you have in mind for a 6 or 7 option poll?

It would have to cover pretty much all of this thread in 7 or so options.

Ah well, that thread really covers it, eh? And obviously Jules was already focused on that. If anything, we should just add to that, if there's anything more that can be added.

Hey, that's a nice effects rack! 8) Thanks for the heads up.

It seems to fit Tracktions Properties Panel perfectly! :)

Hmm, well wouldnt it be kind of strange to make a poll out of midi functions? If you need one tool, you also might need the other, right? midi is kind of one tool all in all! It would be rather usable, if one could wote on more then one thing, like if you think only one thing is un-necessary, youd wote for all the rest..?

Hello it's me again !

I have tried to make a full project with Tracktion, to see how this soft should be easy to use compared to more expensive sequencers... I have been a bit in difficulty by using the racks, to emulate the send effects and the bus routing, but i have successed at the end.

I have seen a thing which should be better for me... I would like a default velocity modifiable... when i enter notes in the midi edit place, all the velocities are at 127 by default. But for drums, i want to have them all at 100, and i have to select them all each time...

Else i have seen some bugs, i don't know in what thread i have to tell this... Sometimes, when i put a filter, a message appear and tells me i won't get some sound because i don't have a VSTi before the chain... but it's an audio track ???. And another bug, when i am on a midi track in midi edit mode, with the piano roll and all, if i delete the midi clip, the midi edit mode is still activated, and i have to create a blank midi clip to deactivate it.

Have I to precise i love more and more this soft ?

I have seen this message...sometimes it does seem to show when there is no reason...not a major issue though but a bit strange.

Just wanted to give this poll a bump for all those new users (including me :) ).

Hopefully I'm the first in this thread to post a "Groundhog Day" reference. :)

Well Tracktion is most useful to me as a production tool, quickly sketching some ideas out for later development. To this end, with its ability to host VSTis on my powerbook and its efficient cpu usage, T is great. I do my mixing elsewhere.

To make T more useful would be an ability to sync to vid (pref quicktime) and if Tracktion cannot do that itself, then rewire slave capability would enable it to work with apps that can 'host' vid (and other things T can't).

Other midi and audio tricks would be great as would 'stacked recording' allowing v quick buiding of multipart ideas... oh and fixing the 24bit AIFF problem.:D

ChristianMusicMaker,

Thanks for putting this poll together.

I cast my vote for 'A mixer and possibly sends', but specifically for enhanced rewire capability and sends.

My situation: I use Live 4 for creation and arrangement of MIDI and Audio Clips, and I'm looking for an elegant mixdown environment that mirrors Live's simplicity. Note that my workflow doesn't require extensive midi editing - I'll just do a take until it sounds right - so my approach of doing all composition in Live works fine for me.

What Live 4 lacks is certain mixdown functions: PDC and better metering specifically. Tracktion has these features but seems to lack bussing capabilitiy (please educate me if I'm wrong).

I don't really care about a mixer 'view' per se - tracktion's interface is fine already, it's more like flexible routing of tracks and use of tracks as buses that I'm after.

As Far as rewire goes, Live 4 works great as a rewire host and slave - I would like to see Tracktion mirror Live's flexibility and simplicity in this regard.

For example, as a rewire host Live simply makes rewire inputs available to the new/existing audio tracks. To record rewire, I just record enable the audio track like any other and go. I would like to see something that elegant in Tracktion.

Also if Tracktion could slave to Live, I could use Tracktion to host all of my VST Instruments right from the compositional stage and record linear MIDI tracks into Tracktion from Live's MIDI loops. This would allow me keep an eye on the CPU with both programs running as a build my songs, and give me the ability to swap out instruments in the mixdown stage.

Currently I use sonar for mixing, and by comparison to Live's rewire host implementation, Sonar is a nightmare. First, you have to create a dummy midi track, then an audio blurp for an end of file marker in your project, then do a very fiddly select of tracks and ranges, and finally pray that the "bounce" goes well. Hate it.

So, in summary my wish list is: 1) Rewire Slave Capability, 2) Simple Rewire Host mode audio recording, and 3) PDC friendly Send capability.

If anyone has links to workarounds for #3 (send capability) using racks, eXT, etc., please let me know. Maybe the current Tracktion version will work for me short term as well! Hmmm, I think I'll copy this question to a new thread as well...

Thanks.

Hi EnzymeX,

Been very busy with webdesign, music projects and a full time job amongst other things... 8)

I thought starting a thread like this would be a good idea and over 100 KVR members seem to agree judging by the votes :o :D

Now that a free version of Tracktion is available...

http://www.musicplayer.com/freetracktion.htm

I thought I would bump this thread up as there are now probably quite a few more people who would like to vote... :D

Thanks for all your votes so far guys!

Hey Dominic,

Glad to see you back on the board - hope all your projects are going well.

I did DL the free T1 demo, and have finally seen render functions in action! Very Cool. What a smart way to get folks hooked on the concept of T2.

Thanks Enzyme. Glad to see you are happy with Tracktion! :D

I think giving T1 away is a masterstroke by Mackie.

Vote Summary...

A mixer and possibly sends? = 15 votes (11%)
Audio editing and recording? = 13 votes (10%)

More votes still coming in...it appears more people want a mixer than audio and recording features.I thought no one wanted a mixer. 8)

that's stupid - if 'a mixer' and 'sends' are summoned together how you can you know if just a single one of the people that voted for it wants a mixer? :bang:
