If you are just thinking of picking it but because of the fear of missing out but don't really have the means for it, then don't. But if the $160-166 price-tag you can currently get at retailers is not that big a deal for you, then you might want to pick it up regardless.

^^ Just to add to this, OP, get what you think you need. Don't just get because it's a deal. C 10 Pro is a high end pro DAW. Some believe it may be too much over kill for a home recording producer type enthusiast. Don't forget, you will get charged down the road when its time to upgrade to 10.5 or 11.0

Agree with both. I got excited for a bit, but the e-licenser helped me control this purchase. Also, I find Cubase Pro fairly complicated for someone coming from FL Studio in particular, so it will be a significant time investment, which is probably unnecessary.

Steinberg is a fairly reliable developer. And they recently have been advancing their software at a rather rapid pace. Much more so than Ableton does with Live or Apple with Logic.

Logic updates have been extensive and at a good pace for a while now... and of course all free

Not sure if I agree. I do have Logic but it is one of the few DAWs I decided to deinstall so I might be not completely up to speed. I really pains me to say this because I am a passionate Apple user, but Logic’s plugin scanner is currently the worst on the market. Which is astonishing considering it only scans plugins in Apple format. Does not give me a lot of confidence to be honest.

Go look at the changelogs over the past few years... quite impressive

Logic did languish for a good while and so the impression was there that development was slow. Hasn't been the case in the last few years though.

They were very popular along time ago but most companies use online activation DRM now. Why are Steinberg living in the past in this respect ? Even Blackmagic (DaVinci/Fusion) have recently dropped using dongles and replaced it with online activation/DRM.
To be honest, I can't abide ilok either.

Yeah, if e-licenser was not required, there would have been even more sales. I like how Waves moved from iLok to cloud-based or normal USB drive based activation. And when that happened with V9 a few years ago, I could finally get my hands on them. That move would have boosted their sales like anything.

Not sure about that, but there would definitely be more piracy. E-Licenser with dongle just works, the last Cubase version that ever got 'cracked' is Cubase 5. The only newer versions of Cubase that got pirated are the Elements versions because they don't require a dongle.

I recently purchased a new PC and found that Cubase was actually one of the easiest things to get up and running. Just move the dongle to the new PC, download and install Cubase and it just works without any online activation or entering serials.

For those of us struggling with GAS on this "deal"...I am keeping on reminding myself that I'm not actually saving money by spending money unnecessarily. I mean what exactly am I missing out on when I already have Ableton, Logic Pro X, Studio One 4, Reason and even Cubase Artist ??? Honestly? Absolutely nothing (ok, there might be the odd thing, but do I actually NEED any of it?) and as I am really well invested in the use of Logic, a Cubase upgrade would probably just sit there taking up HD space gathering virtual dust....

There....convinced myself for the next half hour at least...

A changelog says nothing about the amount of major features or changes which have been implemented. Every Reaper changelog is packed full of stuff they changed, which in most cases happens to be very, very minor changes. I don't know if you're familiar with Cubase, but, the changes from most major versions are pretty substantial. There is absolutely zero doubt that it's the fastest evolving DAW.

The money i already spent this year, even though i didn't want to spend ANY in the next time already is the best cure against GAS... remembering that Studio One is my fav anyway, and that i don't need any of the enhanced features of Cubase Pro as a hobbyist does the rest really. Nah. Wallet secured and safe.

I´m using different DAWs for years now and while Cubase is really playing in the premier league regarding so many different factors, always aiming for the professionals in the music industry, it is not the most creative one.
Like with many other things in life, we have to use different tools for different tasks. While Cubase is brilliant and second to none for expression in huge orchestral templates and scoring projects, I love to go wild with Ableton Live for electronic music and deep sound design. With Bitwig 3, a new gate will open for my creative flow and its very important to have the freedom to choose between different tools.

It really depends on what you want to do with it, i guess. Pretty different workflows.

FWIW, i never gel'd with Ableton. Actually, i quite detested it every time i tried it, because i just couldn't figure out how the thing works...
