The topic is initialized by feeling i've got(and the sound still ringing in my ears )
after long session with Synthmaster One,which i(sorry for that) called when was released a 'toy' synth ...but now can't stop exploring and exploiting it :)
Again using 'best' classification in title is with presumption that objectively no such thing as 'best',but subjectively from today i have definition and idea what i'd call house synth and how to use it in my mix so to achieve exciting 'house' vibe,on which i wasn't so focused till today.
I'd say if it cause the Addiction to the house vibe is a house synth, with all necessary modulations so on technical stuff to make you perceive emotionally 'sense' of the sound,i know it's impossible to describe sound technically this way, just some sounds make you feel specific way, don't know how to describe it better,it's why we call music an art,but not sound science :)
Feel free to discuss soft or hard synths you like or adore making house music.
It is not commercial topic,i guess sometimes kv331 are probably sick of me an my big mouth, but when love to the music take over and speak, things get out of control:):):)
My go to house vst synths list for the moment:
1.Synthmaster One
2.Air Hybrid
3.Tone2 Firebird

Really, do you mean to get that classic House sound from the late 80s - early 90s? In which case it is TB-303, SH-101, Juno 106, Korg M1, Casio FZ-1 and CZ-1000. Oh and those horrid Akai samplers (later the Ensoniq).

Now just any synth you like and can learn will do almost any job you want it to.

:-)

no actually i'm not fan of classic house,it's not about early or later sound of the house, but the vibe the synth gives and inspire your creativity ,for example some people use Sylenth1 to make modern house, but i can't get this vibe from it,
maybe it is about filters, modulations or ADSR i don't know never been thinking about that before,
but for sure u can't call Sylenth1 house synth,it's more trance machine than anything else, same with other synths,
they are more into something else but house.
Another synth i would call house synth because of the vibe is AIR HYBRID3.
If i start house project definitely will start with SM1 and H,then will use something else.
It's subjectively for sure.

I fully get how Adamski, Ege Bam Yasi, Bomb The Bass and even 808 State were House as they have a very House sound & feel. I don't get stuff that today is called House is House as it doesn't resemble it to me at all. How is it different from any other kinds of Techno?

And if so how does a sound (or synth) need to sound different to be in that space?

:-)

Theres still good house coming out, but a lot of what people call house now is rarely anything resembling classic house and lacks the vibe.

But saying any modern synth is a “insert genre here” synth is a tad bit on the silly side. Getting a house vibe from a synth is all in your head. Any modern synth can crank out any sound if you can program it. Take Zebra2 for instance. You can make a movie score, trance, hip hop, chill, etc.... it’s about how you program it. Need an organ sound for some house? Zebra2 will do it. Need a super saw for trance? Itll do that too. Need an acid bassline for some acid house? Yup. What about a deep sub for hip hop? Yup. As will any modern synth. Some synths click well with some people, and other synths click well with other people.

If Im being honest, never have I used a modern synth and thought “this is a ____insert genre_____ synth.”

Disagree, some synths have specific or unique modulations that makes them more suitable for particular type of sound and music style than other,Sylenth1 to me is probably one of the most inappropriate choose for house, but any kind of 'producers' use it as such and probably that's why house isn't exactly the same ,the vibe is in your head for shure, but there is technical side too - Zebra is super for house if you ask me,Synthmaster 2.9 as well, but they are top level of soft synth programming,no genre they don't fit, just programming isn't so much fun and fun factor is very important part to keep that vibe :)

Not sure what a "House" synth would be...

Almost any synth can create sounds for any genre. Maybe you are looking for specific sounds? If so, examples?

Generally the earlier (nineties?) house is technically not to advanced (as is the case with many genres in their pioneering years). Most sounds can probably be reproduced with relative simple/common means/synths.

Though it's a period where the digital domain was pretty prominent too. Digital synths and samplers....

Don't buy hardware synths. Your house will be crowded with them. Better use soft synths for house.

Any analog sounding synth will do, house is more about the groove and arrangement.
