Brilliant tip, krans! Thanks for sharing.

This is exactly the stuff i'm looking for, the softer side of Hive. Slower envelopes, subtle soundscapes lingering in the background through feedback etc.

Unless I'm missing something, that "Still" trick doesn't actually work (drag&drop Still onto the Scope and see). OTOH it's easy enough to turn the delay Feedback way up and then suppress it (negative modulation) using Gate or the amp envelope. The idea of using almost infinite delay and killing the feedback whenever new notes are played is cool... Must use that! :tu:

(FYI the "Still" gate opens whenever the FG Env signal isn't moving.)

Well, then I'll kindly ask you to try again.
Simply load init, enable Delay, assign FG1 Still to Delay feedback, turn it to max.

Now press a note, and you should get exactly the effect described. Delay going on and on.
Try dragging&dropping Still to the scope, and you should signal off when playing, signal on when everything is. . . well, still.

Does that work for you?

I had a quick go at implementing what krans is describing.
It seems you need to set the Function1 to Input=Gate and Mode=Cycle (OnOff). Now when a key is held the Still is off, and when you release the Still is on.

I made a silly example where I was messing around with an arp and noise - it goes forever

Thanks for sharing the technique krans!

So I've been playing around with this a bit (see the Tips and Tricks thread). Try this out:

1. Function1 set Input=Gate, Mode=Cycle (On/Off)
2. For Function2 set Input=Func1 Still, Mode=One Shot (adjust attack and release to taste)
3. Use Function2 Env to modulate a parameter
4. Now find that assignment in the matrix, and add a Via = Velocity

Now you've got a velocity sensitive one shot envelope that triggers on Note Off events. Very close to release velocity (it's going to use Note On velocity) and using a One-Shot Envelope from F2 allows you to set how quickly the modulation comes in and out. You could, of course, opt for a different mode or just use F1 Still depending on what you're trying to do.

First of all, congrats Urs and U-He for the release. I'm an happy owner of Hive since 2 days and already in love with it (well, as much as I'm in love with the other ones I've purchased from you, ie Diva and Repro). I haven't read all the pages of this thread so sorry if it's already been adressed but a couple of things:

- I've seen some posts about the fact the UI is slow, it works flawlessly on my 2015 i7 (Windows 8.1 Pro, 4.0 Ghz, 16Go, Ableton live 9 suite), still I have a minor glitch when switching back to ableton, be it from the desktop or firefox, UI displays with black holes for half a second before returning to normal. Really, nothing bad, it doesn't have any consequence on my workflow, but still worth mentioning since it's my only synth behaving like this (and i have a bunch of synths...).

Here's a screenshot of what it looks like (as you can see, CPU is not overloaded while this happens):

- Besides that small technical issue, there's a choice i don't understand: why put the reverb so high in the fx order on an init patch? IMHO it should be at the end of the chain, or at least after the delay, by default. I guess there's no rule, but 90% of the time patches are made that way, reverb or comp is the last in the FX chain (the factory presets are made this way actually). One mouse click could be saved here

No, doesn't work here. The "Still" gate only goes to 0 while there is some movement in the FG, and that is practically never when the Input is 'none' i.e. only MIDI note gate. This means that the delay feedback never goes to zero for long enough, so the previous notes remain audible instead of being removed (as is the case with negative delay feeedback modulation directly from MIDI Gate).

FYI I'm on Mac, running the official release version. Maybe Windows is different?

Yep, that works. But might as well use Gate directly (I haven't noticed any nasty noises due to that mod source being polyphonic).
