Dear Waveformusers,
At the moment I have some trouble recording audio with waveform 8. I tried to record several times, but it does not work at all. To demonstrate the problem I put up a video on youtube (not listed, please do not share outside the forum).
First I thought it might be a Hardwareproblem, as even Audacity refused to record and my old M-audio Audiophile 24/96 is still in use, but after a while I could at least get Audacity to work, so it might still only be software/driver caused, eventhough this Soundcard is more or less a methusalem and it could be that there is still a hardware problem, I am not sure about this, because this problem came out of the blue and when the troubles began I tried out a lot of configurations but nothing seems to work in waveform. :-?

Did anyone of you experienced similar problems and might have a solution? Thank you very much :)

Can you take a screenshot of your audio_Settings in Waveform. there should be a screenshot app builtin in Mint-19 , it can be invoked by command xfce4-screenshooter or from the whisker menu, and sometimes by pressing prt sc on the keyboard.
It is important to know what way you have your audio configured , e.g jack , pulseaudio ,alsa.

Thank you very much for your help :) . I used only the alsa drivers for years, but just an hour ago after many trials I finally got my DAW to work properly again by using Jack (see screenshot below) - but only with the option of an 23 ms delay, there is no other choice possible. But I am okay with that for now, because all the other options did not work (any more)

I tried a lot of configurations during this afternoon, just look the long list of possible drivers in the attached screenshots - unfortunately none of them worked and finally I lost track which one of them I had used the years before, so what is printed out as used in the screenshot is more a sure sig(h)n of my confusion because I ran out of Ideas. I think I might have used the pulse audio server, but that didn ' t work anymore. Many of the options are unusable anyway, because my 24/96 is just a stereo card and doesn't have rear/front etc. speakers.

glad you now can record, Alsa may have been the problem as it grabs exclusive control over your soundcard and if anything else was holding it Waveform would not work properly. You might be able to lower your latency a bit more by using a lowlatency kernel or realtime if available and tweak some system settings. This is quite a large topic which has taken me weeks to setup on my Linux mint installs. there is some good info here https://linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic.php?t=19437

ok, thank you very much for the Info :) - meanwhile I deleted the video, at least I can record now :)
