tone and fx is pure massive x*, with minor eq and comp on the synth bus

*except for the drums of course, there's some hihatlike sounds within the massive patches though.

enjoy! :)

I think they definitely need to add that to the FAQ. :)

(Even though the download link to the library is right below the download link to the demo...)

I got it for free as i upgraded anyways to k12ce. I like massive but never was impressed as others and it didnt click for me in sound too. I expected not much from massive x but there are lovely patches! It just doesnt inspire me much sadly like serum etc. It is different which is good cause we dont need 20x serum buf it also lacks and i think evildragon is connected with ni and has great knowledge overall. So respect is there but you are defending massive x too much atm with some official lacks ;).

So enjoy the synth or leave it. Life is too short to discuss too much about it.
I was super late to the party with the original Massive, first coming into kontakt with it two years ago. And to be honest I was not at all impressed, to me it was no better than Reason’s nearly two decades old Subtractor. Massive X on the other hand is a game changer, the clear high resolution sound and the wide range of sonic timbres that can be coaxed out of it are phenomenal. For me in terms of sound quality Dune 3 and MX are the top dogs right now. Dune 3 is a bit more analogue sounding whereas MX is thoroughly modern and digital.

Some complaints;

-No value readout of knobs (so weird and not handy)
-Only 1 filter (i don't count the Utility)
-No panning per OSC
-No panning per Noice Gen
-No way to change the order of the FX (X, Y and Z)
-No MOD overview (can be handy)

Overal very happy with the sound, the possibilities and the workflow. The routing page and LFO's are truly fun :D
I am also really enjoying the sound as well... interesting tones just seem to flow like water!

No value readout is IMO a terrible decision. It makes it impossible to replicate something I like from one preset to another. I've already found a variety of situations where right-click drag for fine control with just a tiny change can significantly alter the sound. I consider it somewhat crippling for such a complex and nuanced synth.

Not having a way to change the FX order is a bother. It is compounded again by not having a value readout. So if I have 3 FX and want to switch the order I cannot get back to the exact same settings once I switch!

Soundwise MX could become one of my favorite synths! Which makes some of the (for me) deficiencies frustrating. MX has a very expressive sound engine. I can already tell I will be able to make beautifully playable lead sounds. But then it lacks support for breath controller or expression pedal which I frequently use. It lacks Poly AT. Then there is no midi learn.

It has never been a focus for NI to support players like myself who play with both hands and use controllers like breath or expression. They've never particularly shown an interest to support us. The lack of MPE is the next extension of this. I had hoped with MX being their first standalone new synth (standalone as in not a Reaktor ensemble) that it might mark a change in this regard. Oh well... it is what it is.

On a scale of 1-10 I would give the sound engine a 9.5... workflow I would put at 3 with no midi learn, poor midi support in general, no direct parameter automation, no undo/redo, no numeric display, only the most rudimentary browser, no module presets or module copy/paste, lacking some smart visual cues, no help system or right click options like locking a parameter.
Yup. Definitely left the oven before it was done baking. At least there seems to be enough noise about it that it could hurt sales a bit and provide them with some insensitive to finish it.

I will sell mine immediately if there's anything negative from either of them (or from Kim Kartrashian)
My cousin works for BMW. He said MX is now the standard for sound in the automotive industry.

I suspect that maybe the effect of harmonic distortion of detuned oscillators was confused for aliasing. Harmonic distortion of two or more oscillators can create harmonics below each oscillator's fundamental frequency.

Holy shit, KvR assholes really stinking the place up over the last twenty pages or so...

You guys are calling someone an idiot for not understanding 'exciter envelopes' on an unlabled, un-manualed synth that is a week old.

There is still no f**king manual, correct?

Then I discovered it’s easy to use ‘Performer’, modulated ‘Lfo’s and it’s ‘Key Triggered’ sequences. After about a further 10 minutes.

I haven’t started to read the manual and I just watched a quick ADSR video on ‘Massaging the Performer’ which made my feet tingle. 😎; All though that maybe the Blueberry Gin.

But I have to confess. WTF are you lot on about?

Massive X is right on the F***ing money as far as I am concerned and I can’t believe anything you lot are saying, seriously 🖖 with the greatest respect.

Try and filter some noise, give the product a few days on your HD and make an honest judgment after some more time.

The biggest bump at this point, like with everything else in studio acquisitions (unless it’s an egg shaker), is the price. As per usual.

Come on guy’s.
100%, no offense, all respect due. Fwiw, my experience of it, and of this thread, is directly opposite.
It sounds great, absolutley. Presets seem fine. I would not have noticed the aliasing, would not have minded the lack of preset functionality.
But NI is a premier developer, right? And Massive is a legendary flagship product, right?
To have this flagship plunked down delayed, with an unlabled gui, no midi, and no manual is honestly kind of shocking, if not disgraceful for a company as big as NI. Especially considering the new stuff in it. How many pages of this thread are people guessing at wtf its doing? Some of these issues would be knocks against Dev Challenge submissions, ffs.

So check this out, it's only 20 seconds so I'm not selling my music or channel (I only put up misperiments <g>):

https://soundcloud.com/electronicbabynoise/mxglitch

Just playing a little with the "Caps Lock" patch and the modulation options.

I have a longer version if anyone wants to hear it.

But wow! I've never put together something so glitchy that also sounds so sweet! No treatment, fx, just a straight recording of MX in Ableton Live.
