I think it’s more a case that people don’t like being taken for fools, overhyped marketing underdelivering, a blatant discount code scam and an unpopular subscription model is bound to wind up a few people.

My personal experience with PA is just very bad updating and bug fixing (BYOME) and whilst there are some good small developers in the workhouse, I will in future work with companies that support their plugins directly rather than through a 3rd party....there are so many dedicated VST web shops now I see no need for PA at all.
Agree entirely with this.

Thing is, I don't think PA care at all what existing customers think. Most people who have been around for a while have got what they want from PA already and won't spend a huge amount more with them. The subscription model is not for these people, most of whom probably won't join it.

It is for new users.

I just wish that one of my favourite developers, UA, had never signed up with them, as future plugins from them will be released at ridiculous prices and will probably stay that way for a much longer time under the new model.

That's fine. Noone is forced to buy anything.

Here is someone who has one PA plugin.

First of all, when I was working I had money to spare and bought plugins which proved to be very useful for me - now, if I had bought a subscription, I wouldn’t be able to use them now, as I am a student again and money is tight.
Does a subscription make sense? Yes. For businesses and/or someone who earns money with music.

You can‘t really compare a subscription for Netflix/Spotify with one for plugins.
Netflix/Spotify is for entertainment. Movies especially are something you only really watch once or twice. If it‘s a good movie you‘ll watch it more often, so buying it would make sense. Music is something different, but if you compare the price with the value of a subscription, it makes a lot more sense economically. You could still buy single songs here and there, have something you really value and are happy with.
Now, a plugin subscription a) costs more and b) if it ends you have nothing.
So after, let’s say 3 years, you end your subscription because money is tight, you have nothing but projects rendered useless. You paid 600-750$ and get nothing after that. This money could have been used to buy around 8-10 plugins you REALLY use and want to use again in the future. Buying plugins on top of your subscription? You could. But now we are talking about an annual expense of 200 pear year sub plus cost of plugins on top.

I don’t want to buy anything, I want updates and fixes to BYOME to be pushed out by PA officially, not pushed out as unofficially zip files by UA on a forum. What’s the point of PA and there updater when their developers are doing this? I don’t know if I have an issue with PA or UA, but BYOME has been a nightmare for me and would not work at all on my system without the unofficial patches after a year...but they did find the time to develop 2 new products on the back of it! I also paid almost full price for BYOME, now with Triad and the sales, I have seen BYOME licences go for 20 bucks, it’s hardly even worth selling...
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

You do realise you can still buy the plugins if you want? Nobody is forcing you to get a subscription.

You can, but they are ridiculously overpriced (for example, Thorn was 80 bucks when sold and supported by the developer, it had better support and was updated frequently - it moved to PA...price jacked to 200 bucks and no updates since...)

I guess some people will pay 250 for a single compressor or 350 for a Chanel strip....I am not one of them, you can get the Waves equivalent for 30 or 40 bucks.

I guess we'll have to see how often there will be discounts, but I never paid full price for a PA plugin. The most I've ever paid is about $120 when HG-2 was introduced, but since then I've learned to wait for discounts and/or vouchers. Typically I pay no more than 30 bucks or so. I assume that once the dust settles things won't be massively different.

I'd happily be less of a cheapskate and pay more if PA had sensible prices to start with, kept them relatively stable, dropped their transfer fees and increased their demo period. These are the commercial decisions that PA have gone with and I have responded in kind by only buying their plugins at rock bottom sale prices with my monthly vouchers on top. I don't for one minute believe that I am entitled to have their plugins at such low prices, but it's all that I'm prepared to pay at this point.

Exactly my idea !
I leave the PA ship. None of my money will go their way anymore.
I will still use the UA plugins I already have, as long as those are compatible with the future OS versions.

Maybe it's just me, but I have no issue with their subscription model. I don't want it, but I don't hate it either. It's just for sure not the deal of my life. And the pricing overhaul was disappointing. Even more though, because everything was announced with such an attitude.
And then the behaviour on FB. Shutting down critics. really?
Calling people "cheap" in whatever way ignores the fact, that most people live on a budget. Some pros will and can pay 350$ for a single plugin, but for the avarage guy that's a fortune. Two recent PA plugins or Komplete, a guitar, a condenser mic, a mic pre, ...
Most DAWs are in that price range. Maybe it's their idea to force people into subscription, but I don't have to like that, or?

Edit: n/m. Read UA as meaning UAD.

UA = Unfiltered Audio != UAD

So what's going on? Haven't had time to pay much attention to music stuff lately.

Dirk has been possessed by a greedy entity called Dick.
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.
