A fitting German expression for this thread would be Sturm im Wasserglas - literally a "storm in a glass of water".
At least the unbearable heat has died down, although my f**king studio is still hot as hell, it's directly beneath the roof on the second floor, and my PC is wheezing away, adding to the heat. AND I'm recording drum tracks, brilliant idea.
There's lots of talk about excessive ozone on hot days, and my vocal chords always feel like they're covered in slime. Is it my imagination? Or have you experienced something similar?

Why would you expect them to work for free?wagtunes wrote: Thu Jul 18, 2019 4:57 pm
And after I get all the great demos put together by all these talented people willing to work for free, then what? What do I do with these demos? Where do I send them? Who do I send them to? Unless the great demo gets heard, it's not of much use.
Why would you proclaim to want to really try and be a songwriter, and then expect other people to help you for free?
Why is there this mentality that people can offer their time, services and expertise for free?
Why don't you pay for their services?
I haven't even bothered reading the rest of the assumed train wreck of a thread that is the norm for you.

So I wake up this morning to this thread and find nothing bu anger and hostility, even though I have finally made a major breakthrough and have moved on to something I am really excited about and have a totally positive can-do attitude and have even apologized for my actions here.
This is living proof of what I've said about this forum from day one. People here just enjoy causing trouble.
Well, I no longer want any part of it. I've moved on. I'm going to have a great life trying to make it in production music. And even if I fail, at least I'll know I gave it everything I had to give.
Those of you who still want to harp on the past, knock yourself out.
It's of no concern to me.

The thread is simply too long for everybody to read it entirely...
I did, and I must say I get a lot out of it, Wag is one of the most successful posters on KVR, even if you do not like that role too much, because taking that role maybe was not a conscious decision... But it is entertaining and eye opening at the same time.
I wish you a lot of success for your move to Library music. I am confident it fits your underlying motivation which might have not been that clear to you. You want to be a useful person. I bet you are and can do it...
I collected some quotes though, and the problems I see in there might go in the way also with your new move...
But when listening to much of the other styles you present, there is no notion of caring of the details, I listened to them for some seconds and then go on. And that is not about production or mixing skills, its not about skills at all, its about how much you care. But that is important if someone wants to collaborate. Yes I would say you can compose in any style, but don't care enough about these styles, better don't show the areas you don't care so much about...
I followed your trance track thread, and after the first enhancements the result got worse, because you focused to much on fulfilling the genre rules and wanted to please everybody. Caring is as much to please yourself as it is to please in general... If you are not pleased, nobody else will be...

The lack of caring might be the recurrent theme for a longer time than you are aware of? Benedict actually thought that your personal story was something valuable and something to share. Your song "At the End of the Day" shows a lot of your feelings and I agree with Benedict its worthwhile and does connect to you as a person and does also connect to what is important for you. If your song connects to what is the most important to you, your family, your church and also your music, we get connected as well. Music is about getting touched...wagtunes wrote: Tue Jul 23, 2019 1:32 pm Thanks Vurt. I'll miss you. Achieving my goal, at this point, is irrelevant. This thread, this amazing thread, has made me realize how little I really care. In that respect, a big thank you to everybody who helped make that possible. I'd been living a lie for a long time. I don't know when it was that I truly stopped caring, but I did. Maybe because my reasons for wanting success were all wrong to begin with. That's a long story that I'd rather not get into here.

Just the last sentence tells it all: its not important enough. And that is fine, if you are aware of it you won't waist so much time on unimportant things like pleasing others, or showing off your skills...wagtunes wrote: Fri Jul 26, 2019 1:50 am But what gets me is all these people with almost no talent who make it big. I won't post the list because I'd be typing forever. However, I'm sure what they lacked in talent they probably made up for with determination. They probably did everything humanly possible to make it from networking to working crappy jobs to whatever. I've admitted that I'm not willing to do that at this stage in my life. It's just not important enough to me.
That "who I am" is the most important question. But its not a question you can answer wrong or right, its more like a Koan. The master will reject any answer which just tries to find the "correct" answer, the master will only look at the attitude. Its not about what you answer, but how you answer. It seems you fail, but in reality you are just on your path, but you need to find the path to your goal which is completely hidden, even if the master would point to it. You need some understanding of a higher level, if that isn't there you would remain in the same circle as you've been for 42 years. To get out of a circle is hard, the first thing is to let go more of the same. And you got that as I know, I hope you will flourish on your new path...wagtunes wrote: Fri Jul 26, 2019 10:31 amAnd I'm not making excuses. Tell me what to do to make it in this business and I'll do it. Answering a lot of questions like "Who am I?" is not going to help me make it in the music business. Even Vurt doesn't see the point of it.el-bo (formerly ebow) wrote: Fri Jul 26, 2019 6:52 amYou came here drawing a line in the sand - "No More Excuses". People were taking you at your word.wagtunes wrote: Fri Jul 26, 2019 1:37 amLook, I came here looking for a step by step process to get my songs in front of people.
The suggestions I've been given to get my music in front of people, as few as they have been, I'm going to take and do wht I can.
So no, there are excuses. But I will not do something that is not a productive use of my time.
That is a perfect example for an excuse. In your situation those common recipes just don't work. No recipe will help you, and we have seen a lot in this thread. Even if you were a single, it would not help your career, as the "who I am" isn't clear enough...wagtunes wrote: Fri Jul 26, 2019 12:42 pm If I were single, this is what I would do starting today. This gets pretty long so read at your own peril.
I wish you all the best, and polish you tracks, devote lots of time to them. That time is better spent than creating as much as possible. Don't show your skills, but use them...wagtunes wrote: Fri Jul 26, 2019 11:08 pm Point is, I now know what I'm doing the rest of my life. I've written enough pop/rock songs in 42 years. I don't need to write any more of them. I can now devote my time to doing this and be content doing it.
So yes, for the first time in a long time, I'm really excited about the potential here. But I have a lot of studying to do in order to prepare myself to start.

You might have missed it...
There are patterns in our behaviour. Either they work for you or against you.BertKoor wrote: Fri Jul 26, 2019 3:09 pmA deceptively simple question, so hard to answer. There's no right or wrong answer.Who are you?
I am an iceberg. You are an iceberg too. All other people can see is the tip. Those are our actions, easy to perceive. Under water are our true deeper motivations. Often we're not even aware of these ourselves.
The answer you gave was fine, but you have to dig deeper, much deeper, to get a better insight in how you act and why, and why certain things you do are succesful or fail.
Just some posts ago you received feedback about your behaviour as observed by us. And how did you react? Ironically it was about how you react to feedback / criticism.
Now someone else states that handling criticism is an important aspect of the work.
How come, if we reach out a hand to you to offer help, you see it as a hand that slaps you in the face?
How come they say you burn bridges all the time?
We see just the tip of the iceberg. To get useful answers and get improvements, you need to work on it and dig deeper.

Aggressive, expletive-heavy attack posts like those are what will ultimately get this thread locked. If the two of you want to fight to the death, could you at least take it to PMs?

Don't worry el-bo, the thread will not be closed. At least not by me. You and the others can continue on as long as you like.el-bo (formerly ebow) wrote: Sat Jul 27, 2019 11:55 amGreat! Have you ever wondered why this kind of negativity seems to follow you wherever you go? After a quick search of the forums, it's evident that this is a trend in so many of the threads you post in. It's like dé ja vu.wagtunes wrote: Sat Jul 27, 2019 10:36 am So I wake up this morning to this thread and find nothing bu anger and hostility, even though I have finally made a major breakthrough and have moved on to something I am really excited about and have a totally positive can-do attitude and have even apologized for my actions here.

It's of no concern to me.
You stir up trouble, feign outrage and then, when you're bored with it, you proclaim that you're over it, you wash your hands of the entire thread and everyone in it (except for those few enablers who treat you with kid's gloves), you claim innocence and place the blame on everyone but yourself, and then you wonder why people here are "so mean" to you.
[TL;DR: you're a big part of the problem.]
Anyway, I've said my piece and now I, too, have work to do.
