No. You said the country artists were civilized people. What country artists? I would think that a rapper having his day in court attempting to protect his intellectual property, no matter what you think about the case or verdict, is the definition of civilized. I don't know why you wouldn't agree or suggest otherwise. Actually I do know... You need to check yourself.wagtunes wrote: Mon Aug 05, 2019 3:31 amAs I said, I stated it outright if you read what I said. This guy isn't civilized if he sued over something so flimsy.SAW75 wrote: Mon Aug 05, 2019 3:29 amActually there was an implication there. You need to check yourself.wagtunes wrote: Mon Aug 05, 2019 3:22 amNo implication here.SAW75 wrote: Mon Aug 05, 2019 3:11 amWait... I'm sorry, what? Civilized people? What exactly are you implying?wagtunes wrote: Mon Aug 05, 2019 3:07 am Hopefully, I've made my point. If country artists had the same attitude about their music as this rapper had about Katy Perry, they'd all be suing each other blind. But these are civilized people not looking to make a quick buck on a flimsy, at best, similarity between two songs.
I can't make it any clearer than that.
Anyway, I'm going to bed.
I'll continue this nonsense in the morning if I have nothing better to do.

Hmm. Not sure where you get that from. Maybe because of the very common chords and chord progressions. But the lyrical content and melodies are usually quite different. That same argument can be used against R& B or gospel or death metal ... It will sounds alike to someone who isn't a fan.of the genre or artists. . But in a dispute about whether someone stole something, they will bring in people familiar and very well versed with the genres .wagtunes wrote: Mon Aug 05, 2019 3:29 amNo of course not. But enough of it does. Certainly my example proves that. But these people aren't suing each other. And there's a lot more similarities than between the rapper and Katy Perry.telecode wrote: Mon Aug 05, 2019 3:28 amI don't get this post ? What are you trying to claim, that all county songs sound the same ? There are different levels of country music, and not all of it is the mindless radio friendly budweiser gm truck driving radio friendly kind. Rossane Cash, Emylou Harris, Steve Earl make some of the best quality American country rooted and influenced music and have been doing it for decades .wagtunes wrote: Mon Aug 05, 2019 3:07 am Hopefully, I've made my point. You can justify all you want.
Country artists would disagree with your wholeheartedly and without question.
I've said my peace on this.
Good night.
There was a time before new country when there was a rut of very generic stuff. Artists like Tanya Tucker and Asleep at the wheel, e.t..c just pumping out records with one or two hits.on them and lots of filler. I think they and the people that made those knew they were making those and didn't care because the goal was to release a record to make an excuse to play live and perform because they knew that's where they.make their living from. They knew they weren't making record to displace legendary Gram Parsons or Johnny Cash records. But that sort of changes with new country and especity what Mutt Lange did with Shania where the focus became to meticulously craft a mixture of pop, rock and country . They did make records that were.good from start to finish and went way beyond the simple arrangements of older country.

They covered that at trial. Don't recall the details but it was supposed to be on the music writers, but then the suit was expanded to cover everyone including the people just singing bg vocals. Probably because everyone ends up making a profit on the thing.AnX wrote: Mon Aug 05, 2019 5:38 am does she write her own songs? (i know she didnt write IKAG)
shouldnt the writer be sued, not the singer?

The Harrison case "My Sweet Lord" vs Ronnie Mack (The Chifftons) "He's So Fine" was filed in 1971, while his Dark Horse album came out only three years later. But it took five years before the suit was handled in court, which was finally settled in March 1998. George's manager Allen Klein even bought all the rights of "He's So Fine". What a mess...Forgotten wrote: Sun Aug 04, 2019 6:14 pmYou know when you have those moments when you think of a not so obvious connection between things and don't say it, then later someone else says it - I had the same thought yesterday and didn't post.whyterabbyt wrote: Sun Aug 04, 2019 2:27 pm I dont know why, but I find it slightly weird that "Dark Horse" is the name of a George Harrison album, and he was also successfully sued for plagiarising a 'Christian' track.
Only difference is I thought of the copied songs the other way round - religious song plagiarized here, but I thought of a secular song being plagiarized to create a religious song in George Harrison's case.

Well, after reading the responses since I last posted, I'm bored. This whole thing no longer interests me. You believe what you believe and I believe what I believe and neither of us is going to change the other's mind so continuing this any further is pointless.
You all have a great day.

Oh, I do want to say one last thing because this is really bugging me. You say I'm bitter? Why? Because Katy Perry, who I couldn't give two shits about, lost $2.5 million? Do you ever listen to some of the stupid shit that comes out of your mouth?
It has nothing to do with being bitter. I just hate injustice. And while this might not rank up there with a blatant murderer caught on camera killing somebody, let go on a technicality, it still pisses me off. But don't worry. That rapper will get what's coming to him because karma can be a real bitch.
And with THAT, I am most definitely DONE.
Have a nice day. I will not be replying to anymore of the stupidity in this thread.
