So when you purchase a perpetual software license, you're the one who has to code any updates, fix the bugs, add any features you want, all yourself like the person with a mortgage has to pay for and/or perform repairs and updates to the home as their responsibility? Or is that rent vs mortgage analogy just really not truly applicable to software? I think the latter.dellboy wrote: Wed Sep 04, 2019 4:37 pm While its true that we only have a licence to use the software, it is often possible to transfer the licence for renumeration.
A subscription on the other hand is money for a service and non-refundable.
A bit like paying a mortgage which will result in owning the property one day or paying rent forever and never owning even one brick. Software companies prefer the subscription model because every time an already existing licence is transfered its money that does not go in their till. A potential new customer is lost.
Not that I love the idea of subscriptions, though. I just thought that analogy was a bit faulty at its core. Subscriptions seem like a viable option for people who are making income using the plugins to align their costs with income (at least when the expenditure would be big for a smaller audio company/professional). It also seems to be more popular with those who may not be professionals but who cannot afford the perpetual license outright. Having both options instead of just subscription seems optimal. As much as I hate to say it, outside of the pricing itself Avid seems to have built their perpetual vs subscription model to try to capture these and most other scenarios. Again, though, outside of the price changes which seem to have just pissed everybody off.
On the general topic, it is sad to hear that people are laid off and I hope everybody lands on their feet. Been there, but honestly it was expected almost every time as I was at tech companies during the internet bubble. It was all too common there/then.

with all respect...you quoted something that starts out "We already discussed this before", I think it's well covered now...please do not derail anymore threads for your agenda...we get it, we got it...lets move on as that would indeed be the respectful thing to do and actions do speak louder than words.JunSev wrote: Wed Sep 04, 2019 5:01 pm All good until you said this:
Please stop this trending, you see people have a distorted perception of things due to this and even thinking about subscriptions as a more "viable" solution for the future; companies and corporations love this procedures so to make us more and more dependent on them, this need to stop.you never own software , you have the right to use it
You Buy The Product, You Have The Product.
From my previous post:
We already discussed this before, again depending from which companies you're buying a software product, the product you're buying is yours; there is terms and conditions for it, we have to respect it, the same as when you buy a laptop, smartphone, tablet and other countless examples about products with their terms and conditions. You respect the terms, the product is yours, you can't of course do whatever you want with it, but is your possessions.
That's why many companies and developers says in their own websites: Download Your Product.
Exactly, because is yours, you paid for it, like come on... what's wrong with you guys?
I'm starting to think that maybe some of you are relatives to some of those companies or developers that supports subscriptions, so to make it look more "viable" option for the future. Simply because is absurd how exaggerated and unjustified your points are.
Use your mind the right way.
With all respect.

Now we know the reason for Massive-X, their first synth in a decade, if its true there not doing well in the market.
The last resort is actually to make synths, how does that work?
Nah, seems to simple. If they drop Massive-X and it doesn't become there flagship synth integrated into a reaktor/kontakt fusion, ie there wasn't a longterm plan of downsizing to begin with, then that pretty much tells the story, despite what they would have us ostensibly believe they are doing well.
