I work on both every day and have TotalFX installed on both. While I have my personal preferences, I find it in poor taste for a developer to constantly point out his irritation for not being able to understand how one of them works. Passive-aggressive "Why I think mine is better" emails are petty and in pretty poor taste and lead to confusion and worry such as simmo75's above over the perceived possibility of the developer abandoning one.

Sure OSX will be supported, but the article is sort of friendly warning about what is happening and a way to make things easier. I'm sure you all received warnings about not updating from pretty much every audio company out there. That speaks for itself.

I use both platforms every day. It's necessary in my line of work. Even if I wanted to switch entirely to Windows that wouldn't necessarily make things easier as plenty of software I rely upon is macOS based, and most somehow Catalina-friendly already, hmmm. For every "don't upgrade yet" email I get (which, really, if you're on a production machine you really shouldn't upgrade right away at all for any reason, no matter the OS) I also get emails of "Hey, we took care of it all two years ago when Apple said they were going to pull the plug. Our software is 100% ready."

A friendly warning isn't a bulk email suggesting that spending a lot of money and time to move everything onto a new system is somehow an easier way to go about things. A friendly warning is, months ahead of time, "We're working as hard as possible to ensure that our software will be fully supported by operating system X as soon possible. In the meantime, to maintain compatibility with your ongoing software and system, please refrain from upgrading your OS until we're certain of that compatibility."

Vojtech, I like Melda software. No... I LOVE Melda software. I recommend it to everyone I know. I've been relying on it for years now (I bought TotalFX in v5? v6? Whenever it first came available, I think...). This email just really rubbed me the wrong, wrong way.

🤷‍♂️<- about you never moving to windows. I didn't refresh the post first. My bad.

soundeziner: First of all, thanks and thanks for the feedback! Here's the thing - what happened this time with Catalina was pretty much impossible to predict and shouldn't happen in the first place. The market shouldn't be a totalitarian system, where the computer manufacturer does whatever he pleases, developers of the software are blamed for the problems, and users just survive and believe the Apple does the best for them. That's just wrong. And while everyone is scared to even speak about it, because, well, this happens :D , I'm not that type of guy. Speaking openly may affect the sales, but for me its worth it. I'm not just going to shut up and go, so to speak.

Anyways the article actually doesn't hit OSX (if you read it) and say you must switch. It merely points out there are certain problems and there's an alternative. That's all ;). Madness situation like Catalina never happened on Windows and I hope it never will... or I'll switch to Linux :D :D

Yeah, no way. I couldn't event imagince going back to windows, although i'm using it today at work, but music? no.

I'm glad madness has never happened for you on Windows. Clearly you've never had the pleasure of being hosed when Microsoft decided to push a mandatory Windows security patch that locked you out of my computer. Apple never did that to me. Windows? too many times...

I'm not saying Apple's perfect. They aren't. I was mighty upset when they pulled the plug on Soundtrack. It was a great editor. The mess with updating Final Cut Pro a couple years ago was a total boondoggle. I've never seen so many of my friend video editors that pissed off.Don't even get me started on iOS maps...

I also recognize that you don't say we must switch. But emailing your loyal customers out of the blue to say, "Look... you have "problems" whether you think you do or not. Here's a good way to spend a lot of money and time to move to a completely different set of problems" is pretty damn arrogant and comes off like a hit. We all know there's alternative, Vojtech. We just don't want to use it.

Some of us really like our systems. Whether you consider a tech company to be a monolithic dictatorial regime or not is your business, but really not something you need to bring to us. None of this would be an issue if you simply said, "We're working to offer support for this new OS but have not got it working just yet. In order to keep using our software in an optimal condition, please refrain from upgrading until we get it sorted out." Instead you sent an email that was the computer flame-war equivalent of "Your Nikes are ugly. You really should buy better Addidas shoes, like mine."

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D please switch to Linux and make a native version of the plug ins

Thanks for the feedback again ;). I understand. I actually never wanted it to sound personal (it probably does, not sure where, but apparently...), so sorry about that. And no worries, will work on Catalina, ProTools 10 will be doomed, but well, no way around it apparently...

In any case I believe people deserve inner sight when they cannot get it. Imagine that there is hypotetically something horrific a big company is planning on you. Wouldn't you want to know that? I would. I would then make my own opinion whether it is worth considering, but I definitely don't want to be in a world where speaking about a certain company with even a slightly negative podtext is forbidden! I'm not from North Korea :D .

Where does this feeling that talking smack about Apple is forbidden? Users, developers, journalists, and more do it all the time. I did it just a couple posts ago.

Yes, I like knowing when a big company is going to do something horrific. Like Facebook mining my personal data to sell it even though they explicitly said they wouldn't, or Enron embezzling billions of dollars and destroying the retirement account of millions of people, or large banks trade in illegal loans leading to monetary crisis of global proportions and the actual bankruptcy of actual nations, or Electronic Arts buying up tech firms just to shut them down and prevent competitors from using the technology - thereby leaving hundreds of software developers suddenly without a job just because they made something good, or Microsoft spending millions of dollars to wrap PC manufacturers in the 80s up in non-disclosure agreements about their anti-competitive bundling practices forcing those developers to only ship with Windows installed and never any alternative Ones like Be, OS/2, IrIx and others and thus becoming the dominant platform default not by being better but simply but spending money and blackmailing hardware companies.

That's real horrific shit. Abandoning 32-bit software SEVEN YEARS AFTER YOU FIRST ANNOUNCED IT is not horrific.

soundeziner: Well, it doesn't really look like many take it well. Think about this article, which basically points out there's a problem, which may not seem to affect the user, but it does, doesn't it? And even you took it personally, despite there's nothing like "OSX sucks", "Apple is a bunch of loosers" :D.
I actually don't mind abandoning 32-bit software, but there's a catch. There are some major studios still on PT 10, because it works, their hourly late is brutal and they just cannot deal with problems when upgrading. And they need the plugins. But now we have to choose - support for PT 10 or support Catalina, but not both. These are the consequences... We will have to go the Catalina way, but it shows you how Apple works. Things are not that simple as users may think.

Hexspa: Hehe yeah, we have a "cool" prime minister here in Czech republic, he's a very exemplary case :D

Thank you for MTurboDelayMB! And the sampler in MSF!!! I will enjoy playing with them!

I'd love to see a list of those "major studios" that have refused to upgrade Pro Tools beyond 2013 (When Avid went 64 bit and dropped 32 bit). Those are studios I need to make sure to not call when I do my next Atmos or Ambisonics mix and bring my Dx-encoded video for playback (all introduced years later). Oh wait... those studios don't exist, do they?

Computers. They do so much!

But then you need them.
