MeldaProduction are NOT going to stop supporting OSX platform.

Part security, part alignment with iOS. (Though I expect the latest changes will wind up making Hackintoshes harder to pull off in the long term.)
They'd make life easier for themselves if they had a clearer roadmap of what changes they plan and which APIs will be deprecated long term. But, realistically, rewiring an active OS rather than starting from scratch ain't easy. Though it's not as if iOS has ever been a fixed platform and that did start from scratch.

That's not true, in my opinion. More dev time spend for macOS stuff means that the user has to wait longer for updates, hence "users problem as well".HobbyCore wrote: Wed Oct 16, 2019 9:35 pm The article is about your problems though, not the user's problems.
This is true, I can understand that.onerob wrote: Wed Oct 16, 2019 9:40 pm but if it looks like Mac will be abandoned then it would be helpful to know in order to make future decisions.
Do not get me wrong, but if you really can understand the mail and the text just like THIS, you probably put already too much emotions into this and (in my opinion) already understood the whole thing not like it was intended, according to my understanding.HobbyCore wrote: Wed Oct 16, 2019 10:11 pm that you've insulted a portion of your userbase, both Windows and macOS users by making some massive assumptions and writing a snide piece to satisfy your own fleeting frustrations.
To me it is just a text, explaining how you can switch and why it would be a good option according to an experienced developer.
Good point.sirmonkey wrote: Thu Oct 17, 2019 5:02 am Also, it seems that the moves Apple is making won't just affect Melda. So you
can refuse to continue with Melda, but you'll probably have to give up a lot of other stuff, too.
And they would have answered, of course ...el-bo (formerly ebow) wrote: Thu Oct 17, 2019 8:34 am The only email Melda should've been sending out is to Apple.
I really wonder how all you "insulted" people cannot just ignore the mail and keep on, if it really annoys you that much, wow! If I was such a person, I really would love to put my energy into something else than just feeling insulted and write such posts. On the other site (someone also wrote a similar post) I got many mails from other devs and companies as well. I wonder what happened, if I would have logged into their forums and started angry posts about it, haha.
And by the way: professional company or not: there are REAL people behind every company, after all. I find it rather likeable, if they show their own opinion, instead of being just quite about everything is going on. To me it makes a company act just human alike.
I am sorry in advance if my post might insulted anybody. Please lets all just try to be kind to each other and make music on any system we like and understand the text from Meldaproduction just as a hint mixed with their opinion.

Yeah I know, but in a lot of places to have a mac or apple "new trending products" is almost symbol of luxury and status, think different they said...MeldaProduction wrote: Thu Oct 17, 2019 9:18 amThat's sadly very true. I personally don't care about the prices and stuff. Prices vary in all industries, if the users are willing to pay extra, fine by me. But the arrogant attitude towards developers they make a living on, that's just wrong... And Catalina is a beautiful display of thatJunSev wrote: Thu Oct 17, 2019 2:29 am Apple overall is arrogant, overpriced and implement constantly bad politics, this is not news.
As I said before windows is not like the good guys neither, but there is a difference, how they do things and (being aware or not) the consideration about compatibility issues amd situations; in contrast ones can see apple and the way how they do things: "let's get rid of this... let's get rid of that...". Is this attitude that really puts me off, that is arrogance
And apple think that can go always away with it because a big majority of their userbase (not all) likes those overpriced products and the looks, the "status", look me I have an apple product it looks cool... big nonsense.
All with respect to all apple users here, Is just that there are things that I don't like.
I definitely don't recommend macs neither:
. Somehow I wish the managers in Apple will come to their senses, but I feel that won't happen and at the end of the day, the end users will take the hit.
A big reason why I'm not the kind of person that jumps in hypes mainstream propagandas. I would do recommend to people not to buy a mac as a future laptop or main music workstation, they act constantly as they don't care about compatibility and that they can go around just eliminating things as they like and this has been not the only time when a developer express frustration about the bad moves from apple, I already have heard of others with good reasons why the dislike because of apple attitude towards them.

Every other developer email said they would be Catalina ready as soon as possible but recommend waiting to upgrade... only Melda suggested switching operating systems as the solution. I have unsubscribed from future emails and will no longer buy any Melda plugins, as I have lost confidence in their willingness to adapt to change.
The real issue is that apparently whoever wrote this article thinks switching platforms is nothing more than a matter of buying some new hardware and knowing what the start button is. This incredible simplification of professional needs is the worrying part.
I can't fathom how someone that produces products for this market thinks that switching platforms is 'that easy', or that the solution is passing their development problems onto their users.
.....
Switching platforms is not about personal preferences for me. It's about my business network in which 100% of my colleagues I cooperate with are Mac based. It's about the audio post on ProTools community being almost completely macOS driven (not talking about music, here).
For me sales are largely about trust. Do I trust the other side to solve my problems?
The big macOS rant does not help there.
What a stupid way to ruin your own business.... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
SOUND!

I remember when Vojtech said he wants us to download all the support files for all his plugins to make his tech support easier, and now he wants us to switch platforms to make his development easier. How is Melda different from Apple?

Do you have any evidence to support the notion that they wouldn't answer a developer?Tagirijus wrote: Thu Oct 17, 2019 10:33 amAnd they would have answered, of course ...el-bo (formerly ebow) wrote: Thu Oct 17, 2019 8:34 am The only email Melda should've been sending out is to Apple.

I'd be interested to see a communication from Apple, in reply to your concerns, telling you they don't careMeldaProduction wrote: Thu Oct 17, 2019 9:15 amI wish it was that simple. Apple simply doesn't care, because they know nobody will dare to speak up (except for meel-bo (formerly ebow) wrote: Thu Oct 17, 2019 8:34 am The only email Melda should've been sending out is to Apple. This is of no concern to their paying customers, all of whom are aware that there are other OS alternatives. The condecension underpinning that email seems pretty aligned with the way this developer generally conducts himself, and it's not much of a surprise that he's the only developer who thought it an appropriate way to vent.
As has been said by others, this is the developer's problem, not the customer's. And if he cannot deal with it, perhaps it's time to consider dropping OSX support, altogether.) and the customers will blame the software developers anyways. Imagine your DAW would be PT 10. Because Apple made a choice it would mean no more plugins for you. And that's a problem and users should know about it. Freedom of speech
. So you are wrong thinking this is the developer's problem.
Sure an email be a bit nonideal way to send a bulk mail, but it did start the ball rolling! Perhaps now some of the users will be tempted the find out how it really is and that's what's important to me. I hate censorship!![]()
And no! you aren't 'daring' to speak up. You are sending emails to customers, not making some big stand against Apple. You aren't petitioning Apple to change, you are trying to lure people onto Windows to make your life easier. I understand, to an extend, but don't make out like your the valiant anti-corporate hero
And I'm not wrong thinking it's the developer's problem. It literally is. Except in the cases of those who bought new Mac's (Yeah, Apple really f**ked up on this aspect), the rest of the music-making community will likely heed the warnings to not upgrade to Catalina. Eventually, there will be a tipping-point, where once most users' mission-critical plugs ave been given the developer go-ahead, they may choose to upgrade. At that stage, you will either have your plugins ready, or not. If you don't people will either stick with an older OS or just drop your plugins. If you have, great. Either way, it's in your hands...and your problem

And don't forget years ago when we had to practically beg for AAX versions that he said he'd never make because Avid was too difficult to develop for. Now he's using those very Pro Tools 10 users (at least the ones who have never updated since 2012) as his reason to "simply point out" why we have problems with our computers and should consider abandoning our workflows and systems we are so very comfortable with just to make his development headaches go away.
