Softtube seem to have a big list of BF sale items. They are quite a big more expensive than competition. Are they that worth it?
Gear & Setup: Windows 10, Dual Xeon, 32GB RAM, Cubase 10.5/9.5, NI Komplete Audio 6, NI Maschine, NI Jam, NI Kontakt

I've seen Dirk reply to posts in the PA facebook group where people mentioned their order was one cent short - and I seem to recall he made it work for the somehow. Worth a shot imho.cptgone wrote: Tue Nov 26, 2019 3:36 pm Having failed to buy Thorn before DS Audio joined Dirk's dark side, I tried to buy it in PA's Black Friday sale, armed with 2 vouchers.
I had a feeling that it might get complicated, and it did.
- Tried to find another product to reach the voucher threshold (€75 for the regular voucher / €99 for the BF voucher). Didn't find much, finally settled for G8. As I tried to check out, computer says "no". I figured I had to use my BF voucher first, so I started over. Also had to look up the vouchers again.
- Second attempt: I finally realise my purchase total was 1 cent short.
- Even if that hadn't been the case, VAT was added, so my free purchase was not gonna be free anyway.
- Added another product I didn't really want (as I already own BYOME and Triad): Dent
Looked up my vouchers again.
When I add my 2nd voucher, computer says no to the previously entered one. I suppose only a single voucher can be used anymore.
- So now I have a choice:
1) let 1 voucher 'go to waste', and pay almost $60 for Thorn + 1 plug-in I might do without, pass on the dynamic discount
2) spend even more on Thorn + 2 plug-ins I might do without
3) spend both vouchers in separate purchases, pass on the dynamic discount
I simply gave up for the time being.
I don't like this time consuming game, it isn't any fun.

Great tip! Thank you.mgw38 wrote: Tue Nov 26, 2019 12:31 pmHaving somebody else master your track is a must if you are working alone imho. At some point you need a second pair of ears. However, in my experience mastering engineers tend to be very close lipped about what exactly they are doing, so if your mix is already pretty good to begin with it is usually not that much of an educational experience. I found it to be more useful to have somebody else do the mixing or at least do stem mastering. You can get reasonably good engineers do that for under a hundred bucks.LoveEnigma18 wrote: Tue Nov 26, 2019 10:23 am Getting tracks mastered by someone sounds like a great idea to me.![]()
That's so cool. I have heard about this through YouTube ads if I remember correctly. Thanks!foosnark wrote: Tue Nov 26, 2019 1:58 pmI can recommend Nathan Moody at Obsidian Sound. I told him up front that I was doing this partly to learn to improve my own skills and he was fine with that. He pointed out the technical problems in my mixes/recordings, and outlined the mastering process he used.mgw38 wrote: Tue Nov 26, 2019 12:31 pmin my experience mastering engineers tend to be very close lipped about what exactly they are doing, so if your mix is already pretty good to begin with it is usually not that much of an educational experience.
Sorry, did not realize to end this discussion.

Thorn is 50 bucks, no voucher. If that's what you want, why jump through hoops to pay more for it (just because it comes with stuff you don't want)? The vouchers aren't mandatory.

The UVI vouchers are not transferable, but there is no remark on them not working during promotions, so hopefully I can make use of mine during the upcoming saleLoveEnigma18 wrote: Fri Nov 22, 2019 7:18 am+1StompIt wrote: Thu Nov 21, 2019 7:34 pm Do you guys know if UVI will allow use of the $100 Voucher during their promotions?

I suppose we cannot use our 100$ UVI vouchers from getting Falcon on your site?

Also, will Kroma 1.5 continue to be available at the intro price (or better) during Black Friday sale (assuming it is included as part of the sale)? Thinking of 2-3 UVI soundbanks possibly including Kroma 1.5, but thinking if I should wait for BF sale to start. Your reply will be much appreciated.AudioDeluxe wrote: Sun Nov 17, 2019 4:52 pmYes, UVI will be having a Black Friday sale at audiodeluxe.com and we will have an exclusive deal for our customersAny idea if UVI will have a Black Friday sale? If so, would you be including the products that are on sale?

This could change my BF plans:
"Audio Plugin Deals presents the BLACK LIGHTNING DEALS!
Featuring 10 hot deals of some of our bestselling products in the past two
years as well as some new offerings! Between Friday through Sunday we will
be unlocking a new deal every 8 hours!"
... here's hoping they (or VI itself, or some other vendor) bring back the $100 Ravenscroft deal (as opposed to the usual $150 BF price). Otherwise I'll probably get Noire for $75 instead.

Despite the price, because yeah.. :-/ it’s one of my favorite developers and my favorite plugin folder to dip into. They do analog emulation really well, like all the others.. but all their stuff is slightly quirky somehow. I like that. Definitely stuff you need to try first.telecode wrote: Tue Nov 26, 2019 3:38 pm Softtube seem to have a big list of BF sale items. They are quite a big more expensive than competition. Can’t go wrong with any of their EQ’s or compressors. The smaller effects are bit hit and miss for me. I love the Fix range and the Reverb but stuff like the Tube Delay always feels a bit toyish and limited to me.
Edit: forgot to mention, there’s an extra 10% off if you subscribe to their newsletter and use code: SOFTUBEVIP10

They gather praising reviews, but personally I don't hear much difference between softube or (name a plugin).telecode wrote: Tue Nov 26, 2019 3:38 pm Softtube seem to have a big list of BF sale items. They are quite a big more expensive than competition. Are they that worth it?

I looked into it and they have sampled Thai gongs seemingly which are different from the Symphonic and other gongs I play.
From the videos I listened to they seem to have done a great job of making a tonal instrument from an atonal source.
That should appeal to lot more people than making yet another sound design instrument.
Although, the sounds you can get from Symphonic gongs are quite otherworldly at times in a way that I’ve never experienced with any sample library.
When you look at the 80” Paiste Symphonic which weighs around 100kg it’s no surprise that it creates unusual tones.
Here’s a guy using flumeys to extract odd tones. Listen on decent headphones ideally although the recording isn’t great.
What you don’t get from the video is the feel of how gongs move the air.
My 28” and 32” are quite something but they are tiny in comparison.
The guy in the video lives not far from me so I hope to get to hear him play the 80” sometime.
Here’s a more basic playing style with the same size gong:

thanks, that large gong is a lovely instrument - in a large space it would be quite something so I hope you get the chance to have a listen to him play.agharta wrote: Tue Nov 26, 2019 11:52 pmThanks.fairlyclose wrote: Tue Nov 26, 2019 11:50 amhere it is https://www.noiseguild.com/bundle-offer-trinity I will wait a few hours to pretend I am not just jumping in. I am starting to go off buying anything this year - I have been going through the other similar percussion sample instruments I have and thinking I should just continue exploring what I have. I have two installation shows next year which use sounds made playing or manipulating the spaces themselves and they will cost a little to put on (8channel systems) and am starting to get concerned about spending even more. If I had no gong instruments I would get Trinity, and I still might, but wonder if I am falling into the trap of moving on to something new/shiny rather than exploring more fully what I have. On the other hand - Trinity really is very very good for what it covers (particularly the percussiveIII component)
