Feels like a shell company to me, as they are based out of Meridian as well and still carry the Peavey badging on all their amps. My strongest complaint about the whole thins is that Homebrew 1 and Homebrew 2 are no longer available. Homebrew 1 was the best part of ReValver.

My concern about continuing with this thread is the longer it gets, the more likely it is that subjects/debates covered earlier will be repeated. If the thread becomes too long and there's a lot of redundancy, people might just give up trying to find what interests them. Another issue is that if someone just discovered this thread and has a comment on (for example) AmpliTube, which was covered early on, the comment would be dozens of pages later than the original review.

My preference would be to have a separate section for amp sims, have a separate thread within that section for each sim that's reviewed, and have another thread for comments on amp sims in general rather than any specific sims. That thread would be where people could post their "amp sims bad/amp sims good" comments; those who just wanted comments on specific amp sims could bypass the debates.

The other advantage I see to individual threads for individual sims is that if an update comes out, it could just be added to the thread.
I agree with every point, Craig. It would be great if this thread could become a section with branches off for each product. It's a good thread that is bad for my account balance. I keep finding out about amp sims that slipped under my radar.

It's actually not a shell company, it's an active company with employees although it's still based in Meridian. It's more like a spin-off. My sense is that software in general doesn't really fit in with Peavey's overall product line. Hartley's a decent guy, so he probably felt it was better to let the people involved in ReValver run with it (they definitely want to take it to a higher level), rather than try to keep it as "odd man out" in a product mix. The program will likely benefit from full-time attention. The upcoming features look quite interesting.

Here’s hoping. And hoping that Homebrew shows up again!

Try contacting them about bringing back Homebrew, I think they'd welcome the feedback.

I realised that tweaking is key, most default patches leave me dissatisfied.
I watched a video review of an audio interface, during this, a DI track was passed through Bias Amp to good effect.

It leaves me feeling, why can't I achieve a great sounding results, I reckon EQ is key.
Currently trying to turn noise into music. Is boutique the new old?

If you just stick a mic in front of physical amp, run that into a recorder, and expect to be satisfied, you'll be disappointed too. So many iconic "guitar amp" sounds on recordings are the result of studio wizardry, not the amps themselves. And presets are designed to sound impressive on the floor at Guitar Center, not so much at a live gig.

EQ is indeed key, you got it :)

Nevermind. I just searched the thread and saw that you had a sneak peek of the beta of the next version and will post about it later.
I totally missed this news item. I had the Peavey site on my book marks waiting for ReValver to go on sale. So Peavey sold the product to another company? It's now totally modular in that you buy little bits and pieces for $3 to $8 per item as you need them?

I bought Bias AMP 2 Pro for 79$ when it was on sale.
The sound is still good, the GUI is killing me.

Too laggy, every thing i click has a 500ms lag, knobs are jerky,
Using low-DPI resolution helps a little, but its still not great. at HiDPI the refresh rate of the gui is like 3 fps.

i see. i guess i will have to pass on it -- as i am on a older setup and dont even have a dedicated video card in the music workstation.

I don't have one either, but that's not the issue. the issue is that it's an HTML/JAVA based GUI.
try a demo to see how it works on your system, really. If you don't have HiDPI display it's passable.

My favorite Amp Emulation is actually hardware based and it's the Kemper Profiling Amp, I really enjoyed that piece of hardware while I owned it.

For software I've been quite happy using Guitar Rig and Amplitube. At the end I stayed with Amplitube because of several factors, one of them is the UI, I really like how it tries to emulate some real gear visually like having an effect pedal stomp, cabs, rooms... but also the included effects are quite interesting with some of them including song tempo synced features, or the possibility to use it in standalone mode with recording options.

Those were facts that definitely had some weight for me to decide to stay with Amplitube at least until I can afford buying a new Kemper.

Post

Amplitube is such a PITA. Unless you own everything, all these locked amps and dead presets killed my OCD organism day by day.

Uninstalled since... forever.

BTW is anyone using the new Presonus Ampire?
