Telling someone he's not telling the truth is rude also, when it's only about differing definitions of SYNTH, no need to imply someone is a liar.
I am with wags on the definition of (or better: use of the word) SYNTH. Though technically speaking you guys are correct, Pianoteq is definitely generating synthetic sound and thus can positively be called a synth, I still hold it like wags does: I call a synth what makes synth sounds. Other stuff I call VSTi, or virtual instrument. Or sampler. No exact definitions here, just common use of language. This is of course personal taste.

and you took it way out of line, no one called you a liar, if you weren't so defensive you would see it was just a difference of opinion on what people here consider a synth. I'm not gonna play wags, this is not on how bad KvR is, this is not people trying to get you banned, you overreacted plain and simple.wagtunes wrote: Fri Jan 03, 2020 2:16 pmHe essentially called me a liar. I won't stand from that from him or anybody. Sorry, but that's how I took his response to me.Hink wrote: Fri Jan 03, 2020 2:05 pmI dont see anyone being rude or nasty, just you wags...just you being aggressive and offensive.wagtunes wrote: Fri Jan 03, 2020 1:14 pmLet's see. Thread title. What SYNTHS do you use.Reefius wrote: Fri Jan 03, 2020 12:56 pmnirm123 wrote: Fri Jan 03, 2020 6:50 am you're using synths/samplers designed to emulate real instruments (which is why synths and samplers were originally created). And those instruments are not synths and samplers?wagtunes wrote: Fri Jan 03, 2020 12:44 pm Instruments Used

Hmmm
Pianoteq 6 - NOT a synth
MODO Drums - NOT a synth
MODO Bass - NOT a synth
MusicLabs Guitar - NOT a synth
EWQL Symphonic Orchestra - NOT a synth
I don't know what YOUR definition of a synth is, but these are not MY definitions of synths.
My definition of synths?
Dune 3
Spire
Synthmaster 2
Legend
Biotek 2
ANA 2
Oxium
PolyM
In other words, things that make SYNTH sounds. Dub!
You want to call Pianoteq a synth? Knock yourself out. I don't give a crap enough to argue about this anymore.
My music, for the most part, is NOT synth based. I will not change my opinion on that and nobody here can make me change my opinion on that with all their ranting.
Oh, and to the other member here, good luck getting me banned from this forum when all I'm doing is calling out people for acting rude and nasty.
God I hate this place. 2020 ain't no different.

wags, I've never called you a liar ! (read my first post again). I merely suggested a different point of view than yours. please don't attack me like that. this forum is a very dear place for me, I would like to believe I'm entitled to politely suggest my point of view here even if it's not 100% identical to yours.

How else was I supposed to take that other than you calling me a liar? Even the poster above agrees that it came off that way. I'm not the only one.
I get that I'm going to always be the bad boy around here but I don't attack people for absolutely no reason at all. You could have worded your response differently. Then we could have had a reasonable discussion.

Anyway, I just PM'd the mods that I am leaving the Instruments sub forum. There is no reason for me to be here anymore. I don't really use synths anymore, don't buy anything anymore and have no interest in buying anything anymore.
I'll stay over at Music Cafe, post my songs, and leave you guys here alone.
I think this will be best for all of us. 2020 can't be like prior years. I simply can't do it anymore.
Have a great new year all. This will be my last post in Instruments sub forum forever.

Let's agree to disagree - I could find a definition of "synthetic" or "synthesize" that means create a thing by technical means in order to resemble a real live/natural thing most closely or exactly like them ... synthetic ascorbin acid, synthetic meat, synthetic whatever ... important part of synthesize is not only what the result is (ascorbin acid), but how this result has been produced (in a fruit vs in a chemical factory, i.e. synthesized). In what the result is, both might be completely the same. That's just my take on "synthesizer", a electronic/technical device that generates audio signals. Therefore I can use this technical device to exactly reproduce a paino or moog ladder filter reso sweep...
And then there's a definition of "synthetic" products/results, i.e. things that are not available in nature. Again in chemistry thru "synthesizing" chemicals you can get pure synthetic products, for instance synthetic dyes... which would compare to moog ladder filter sweep sound which is a purely synthetic sound (result) produced by a technical device called a synthesizer (tool/device/process).

I hate to pick a side in this kind of situation, but yes, despite Wags being usually a overreactive person, I do think nirm123 was unnecessarily rude with Wags. It even sounded like a troll to me, at first.wagtunes wrote: Fri Jan 03, 2020 2:28 pmYour first 4 words.nirm123 wrote: Fri Jan 03, 2020 2:24 pm wags, I've never called you a liar ! this is now being unlocked (I locked it before going to work, home now), it wont last if people keep this argument up, stay on topic if you want it to last. The thread title has no names of members so no members are part of the topic, which of course means dont talk about them.
