Are there any audio demos other than the short clips? I’d rather not install demos and have all the left over files of everything I didn’t buy.

What are the demo limitations?

No, there are no other audio demos at the moment. I am going to create another one with wavetables soon. Syne would be among the smallest plug-ins on your HD, just a few megabytes...

The demo does not save its state and works for 30 minutes. The sound is not affected.

Hi Tj Shredder,

Thank you for your opinion. Maybe it is not a good idea to compare Syne to Loom, which has not been developed for more than 6-7 years, and which comes with an intrusive software protection and necessity of internet connection. The two software are very different in philosophy.

There is only one area where Loom is better, in the sheer number of presets.
But as long as I can generate a complex wavetable for a single click, I don't find this a big issue. Yes, maybe the included presets in Syne are simple, most of them consist of 3-4 modules. I will add more evolving modern sounds. Syne has a heavily optimized rendering engine which has lots of potential, e.g. for physical modelling. It can serve as a foundation for other synthesizers.

Thanks,
Attila

New update (Syne v1.04) was uploaded today that fixes hopefully all stability issues that have been reported.
Many thanks,
Attila

Its not the number, its the quality of the presets. Most of them are in the “wow” area, whereas the Syne presets all sound like I could do them with any bread & butter synth.
I bet there is way more potential in Syne. You need presets which show the difference to B&B sounds, something you cannot easily achieve with other synthesis methods.
The attraction to additive synthesis back in the time of an Axcel (or if you want K5000) was, that you would analyze real sounds like sampling, but then have much more control over it, as you could work on a spectral level to modify and modulate the analyzed envelopes of the partials (which could be as well inharmonic)...
Wavetables are not interesting, there are enough wavetable synths out there, they all struggle more or less with their interpolation, which Syne can avoid, but it does not lead to a new sound world...
Creating wavetables out of samples is possible, but a completely unnecessary extra way too complex step.
Btw. what kind of wave table format do you support?

Your announcement of future MPE compatibility is well appreciated. I play the LinnStrument and with MPE I could always add real expression, no comparison at all with lfo induced “static” movements...

Guess my beta feedback never reached you :hihi:

Dear Attila, I think you should check out for instance Thorn wich offers Spectral Synthesize as well.
It has 3 Spectral sort of wavetable oscillators with 16 table slots each and even a spectral filter mode which is quite nice. It comes with lot's of impressive patches and that's where I say TJ is right. Demos on the Website and Patches are the first impression a potential customer gets.

I'm a One Synth Challenge enthusiast and when this competition features Thorn I was really impressed what I can do with the spectral wavetables. As TJ said - "sampling" of real instruments, doing resynthesize and manipulationg them was quite fun... if you like to listen, https://soundcloud.com/p-e-t-e-r-h/kraf ... -drei-vier which is even featured on the Thorn website... Even the "speech" parts of the track where done with thorn.
Anyway - what I wanted to say: Think about featuring your little gem for one of the upcoming One Synth Challenges. Check out following website to better get what OSC is: https://sites.google.com/site/kvrosc/about
I think you could potentialy get a load of impressive patches and demo tracks for promoting your synth. And the OSC crowd can get a new synth to toy around ;-)

Thanks guys for the helpful feedback! :tu: :)

Please keep in mind that this is the first version of my first virtual instrument, so things will certainly improve as it is actively developed. I have always listened to my users' suggestions, criticisms and requests.

Thanks,

I think the use of "wavetable" has set some expectations that don't quite line up with reality. It can import single-cycle waveforms as keyframes or simply ingest a full set of wavetables and spread them across the timeline/modulation scale. My personal interest is also in bringing some real-world waves into it and using the interpolation move between them. That is doable though it does need a bit of organisation. Maybe a full resynthesis from a complete sample is what you're really after. However, at this stage, I'm more about using the detuning, jitter and other functions to create things that aren't meant to be resynthesised sounds but have some connection to a real-world instruments. For that, Syne, though it's not seamless, works better than something like Loom which, despite being additive, handles more like a wavetable synth with the way the modifiers work.

You can add expression to the sounds now, it's just not per-note expression. That's actually one of the easier things to set up in Syne from my experiments with it. I've been using with a Linnstrument and a breath controller - for the moment (as with a lot of instruments) I just have the Linnstrument sending over a single channel. Yeah, MPE would be nice in some cases but it was far from a dealbreaker from my perspective. YMMV.

I'd love to see a working waveload/resynth feature and MPE on this wondrous nice instrument.
Any news?

Thank you! I am working on v1.1 with MPE support, and analysis/re-synthesis.
I am happy that everything looks solid, no bugs were reported for the current v1.05 version.
Which does not mean it is bug-free, but stability improved a lot.

Thanks!

Great to hear. Thanks.
And yes, haven't found any bugs with v1.05 till now.

Is it going well?

Post

Yes, sort of.
It is possible that a minor update with MPE support will be uploaded much sooner than v1.1.
Now the most urgent task is to offer macOS Catalina support, now that RapidComposer supports it.

I received a kind recommendation from Clifton Cameron:
