"Shocked" because of the digital sound of Serum? That's just the sound that many people like, especially with current music in EDM/Trance etc. For an "analog" sound I would not use Serum, Spire etc.
There are better (but not free) plugins like from U-He, Arturia, Slate and some others.
That would be interesting ;) Maybe he should tell us why he was shocked.
Well I was impressed by the movement, depth and complexity that he gets from a plugin.... But I admit I'm not into sound design that much, so maybe he did nothing special... But it sounded really good to me
I am musically schizophrenic

Does this help you, about spreading voices and adding drift? Is this what you mean?

Tha emulators are gonna sound weak, dats just tha way it goes. Maybe for filtered soundz like pads and shit but anyfin bright, fowget it. Ya gotsta look at sample synths like uvi synth anthology. Just bear in mind some their presets are out of tune and processed wit their own fx, shit but at least they cut through

An always again interesting Evergreen-Topic in the VST Dimension... My two Cents about it:

My Focus is not "analog", I never use VA Synthesis and even Filters frequently stay untouched. But my Ears are used to more Depth, Warmth and Complexity that are usually also associated with analog Sound and Gear. I still remeber the Polysix Saw Pad standing in the Room, shimmering, breathing ... simply beautiful.

However ... I tried a lot, made extensive Tests, trialed many VSTs and so on ...

I recommend not to expect too much from VST Synths. Your Ears are used to hear mastered Sounds and you´ll always compare your Sounds with what you remember. So - you should maybe consider the "End of the Story/Chain" at the Beginning.

I´m now completely satisfied with Consoles/Channel Strips/Compressors/Mastering Tools from bx and Acustica Audio. Those Tools add everything I always missed and I can even determine how much of that Charcter I want. Compression is very important. Never underestimate good Compressors concerning Depth, Coloration, Warmth and so on - as well as the right EQs. bx´s VGAIN and THD are hepful anyway.

If you want to go further you should maybe look at the Stereo Dimension first. Bass-Frequencys > mono - slightly pan certain Frequency Bands (Melda) - M/S Balance - M/S EQing - Stereo Enhancing.

I´d assume that most of us will not go further than that - I usually don´t - but there are many Ways to do so. Unlimited creative Potential. And don´t forget to adapt the Synth Settings again ... especially the U-he Stuff is full of very helpful Options.

I´ll maybe post a little Demo later. Great "analog" Sound coming from the Sampler. Halion. With just bx ssl E and SH-Mastering Comp. Even HALs Filters sound good this Way ...

Why the hell You used arturias jupiter "emu" as your entry vsti is beyond me, its like trying to play poker for money for the first time and lose your money, house, wife and kids to a guy who cheats and everyone knew that but you did not ask beforehand.
Analogue is what, more low freqs or destabilised osc, i think analog in this kind of way is overrated but i do love the sounds of subtractive synths from the 80s.
People argue about analog and all but do you really think if the bass you hear in a track was analogue or digital, nobody does that but obsessed sound engineers.
After hearing those old roland synths and analyzing the sound from multiple raw examples i can tell that for example JP-8 is overrated like nothing else.
I sold my Roland JP-8000 because i compared side by side my vstis and the difference was not big enough to care and to keep it , so it collected dust and i was happier when i sold it than when i bought it.
Random Vsti with proper detuning algos and unison modes , 2 voies can get very simialr sounds and with some EQ can come close. That magic that people post online, it just is not there when you compare it to plugins even free ones.
We are waaaaaaaay beyond that analog gear.
Id buy some old roland synth but it would probably be D-50 , not because of the sound but its a piece of synth history, and on the inside its just pcm rompler with 4 layers, i can do that in 5 minutes in my daw now with 4 sampler layers. Most of the patches on D-50 were made so middle is not muffled like it happens when you dont multisample enough.Tricky but got the job done. Also it was digital which means that vsti can sound and sounds identical.
The tricks he shows on that vid, can be done with lfos to imitate chorus and get that brassy high end goin.

Not really. There’s a lot more to analog than “more bass” and unstable oscillators. There’s a lot going on and multiple nonlinearities are not that easily calculated. I don’t pretend to understand all of it, but I know that only a handful of plugins get it right, and Jup-8 isn’t one of them. Now, “analog,” isn’t a prerequisite to being a good synth, but when you want to scratch that itch, you better be using something on the level of Legend or RePro.

Yeah but id rather have stable synth, by the way, that method of delaying midi input works fantastic, whuy i did not thought of that sooner ... damn, i think that behaviour should be in all DAWS with single humanize button .
Im usin humanisator for this and setting min and max note timing, this changes a lot in the way sound is produced, so its harder to get aliasing, sounds definitely more like those old synths.
IS there a DAW that has this note random delaying function somewhere ? How come its not a thing in DAWs yet ?
Or better yet, how come its not a thing in most VSTi's ? This is easily the easiest way to get closer to analog sound.easily.

"Little one" from Xhun Audio is excellent emulation of Moog Little Phatty. Really fat sound. It's not sample based.

An inspiring video for sure. Diva has a slop per voice option build in. Quite nice.
