the "keys" are horrible anyway, i would sit it on top of my controller. Better and more keys. Very cool synth tho
Who is the u-he of hardware synths?

Ive never purchased a hardware synth before. Surprised to learn they all have one year warranties.
Are there statistics on how long modern synths last?

Well there's the Mono and Poly Evolver, the Prophet XL which is nothing like a Prophet 2000 etc. etc. There are plenty of Sequential products that aren't rehashes and cover similar ground to U-He. The latest "classic" designs are all good comparisons to Diva and Repro-1 5.
I would say it's the best comparison really, except U-He hasn't really gotten into sampling at all, and the Evolvers aren't as modular as Bazille etc.
(disclaimer, the original Prophet 08 notwithstanding, just a dull synth IMO)

I was going to say Hakenaudio's Eagan Matrix (the synthesis engine in the Haken Continuum and, soon, the Osmose) - but it still requires a computer to program it.
The Hydrasynth seems like something U-he would stand behind. Maybe.
Yamaha's Montage has some of the flexibility of Zebra, but in many ways still more limited, and Yamaha makes plenty of uninteresting by-the-numbers stuff too.
If there was a "u-he of Hardware synths" I'd own their product. (I do have a Continuum). Unless you're thinking about hardware that U-he's stuff models and in. many ways improves on, but when I think of U-he I mostly think about the more original designs like Zebra and Bazille.

Well,
in my experience the most versatile, on purely technical vision, I owned and own is Kurzweil. I have a PC3K7 and I've done and seen things really incredible with that synth. It's just a pure nightmare to program. I myself am unable to understand some patches I did when I was using it intensively.
And sure Mr. EvilDragon remembers his times with kurz.. or maybe he wants to forget???
But it doesn't sound very "analog" on normal usage. I bought some sound sets which made me understand that I was a donkey in programming because they just sounded at another level... But normal people, like me now, get just lost in nowhere using it.
If yours was just a purely technical question, with a Kurzweil you might be well served.
But I can tell that I'm far more and more productive using Bitwig and U-He synths with my controllers than I've ever been with any other synth.
And I'm processing the output of U-He synths with TheGrid in Bitwig and... you have to try...

Hey Urs, I hope to see some cool printed u-he blank panel designs as part of the u-he modular HW universe at some point. Might make a nice design project for your art people, dunno if it's worth it for u-he or not, but I would definitely buy them along with the civ module.Urs wrote: Thu Apr 23, 2020 8:56 am
But we're writing the final bits of firmware for CVilization which - for some people - might redefine how they make music with modular synthesisers.

Oooh congrats on stepping into actual eurorack. Really like the implementation of the colour coded LED pots, great idea! Really looking forward to seeing how this develops.Urs wrote: Thu Apr 23, 2020 8:56 am But we're writing the final bits of firmware for CVilization which - for some people - might redefine how they make music with modular synthesisers.
