Perhaps his new nickname could be MK Ultra.

Markus Krause wrote: Mon May 04, 2020 9:15 am I admit that i made misstakes in the past when the company was still young. I apologize for it and I have learned from it. I fixed and changed things - many of them already years ago.
Since this year the copy protection is a keyfile only or has been completely removed to make sure that older products continue to work for a long time in the future.
I listen to the customers a lot and take feedback seriously. I regularly release big and free updates which can be downloaded here:

I love Tone2 synths and had done a lot of beta testing and sound design for them in the past where i had close contact with Markus and he always behaved nicely to me.

After not having done much testing and sound design in the last 2 years i am finally back at this now (currently with the upcoming OB-Xa plugin from Synapse Audio...) and hope to also do that again with Tone2 in the near future.

Icarus and Saurus are still in my TOP 10 all time favorite softsynths.

My best wishes to Markus and Tone2.

Technically that's not true. Tone2 is one of those rare companies that has been noteworthy because of their shady shenanigans when it comes to copy protection. Their reputation regarding this has been well-deserved.

Even though I do understand that piracy is an issue for developers, I find it hard to excuse such practices. After all, Tone2 is not the only company in the world facing those issues.

So respect for them reckoning this.

There are a few other developers who could take a page out of your book and show humility like this. I don't know what the issues are, but it certainly piques my interest in your plugins now to see that you are willing to admit to whatever mistakes you made and to publicly state that.

You make this sound like a fact while it is only your opinion. Based on non facts actually, because, you don't know what exactly is going on under the hood. None of us do.

Well no, some of those things mentioned are in fact facts. Either way, kudos to Markus for owning it.

Apart from the things Markus has said, none of it is really a fact, rather a repeat of what some guy from a warez group posted in a warez forum, which in his eyes was "immoral". Oh the irony. :)

Anyway, as a user of the plugins, I couldn't care less either way. I don't use warez.

It's not an opinion. Some of that stuff is super easy to verify with simple and freely available debugging and forensic tools if are technologically savvy enough. You do not need even to be evil mastermind hax0r or programmer for this.
