Folks, I have two questions:
  1. It says in the rules that commercial synth patches/soundbanks are not permitted. Does this mean I can't use any factory presets the synth comes with in the competition? Or is it only referring to soundbanks I bought for the synth in question?
  2. Maybe a dumb question, but the Creative Commons No-Derivative-Works license doesn't prevent the work's creator from creating a derivative work (say, another recording of the same work, that uses multiple instruments, vocals, etc.) for commercial distribution and copyrighting *that*, does it? As long as there's no attempt to interfere with people's freedoms to use the originally CC-licensed recording under the terms of the CC license it was released under?
Thanks,

1) The purpose is to ensure another person can load and render your track exactly as you uploaded it without needing to purchase any additional software, presets or other license. If it's possible for anyone to install a copy of your host + plug-ins on a new system and render your track without buying anything, you're all set.

If the competition utilizes a free "OSC" license for a normally commercial product, everything that comes with that free license is allowed. It wouldn't be allowed to use that synth which you own a full license for to load banks that are part of the full license but not included in the "OSC" license.

2) A license grants and limits the rights of others, not the author. You own those rights and unless you explicitly enter an agreement to limit your ability to exercise them, you're free to do so. You only limit your ability to restrict the rights of others by granting those rights in a license. Essentially a license is your promise of such. So the only right you lose is the ability to prevent distribution of the track you licensed on its own as is explicitly granted in the agreement. You still maintain the rights to derivatives (a film couldn't include your track, that would make the film a derivative.)
Free plug-ins for Windows, MacOS and Linux. Xhip Synthesizer v8.0 and Xhip Effects Bundle v6.7.
The coder's credo: We believe our work is neither clever nor difficult; it is done because we thought it would be easy.
Work less; get more done.

OK, thanks for clarifying — much appreciated :)

Anyone else think it would be nice to have a kind of variability score along with the main score? Something crude like what your top 25% of scores are. The point being that most of us would surely rather have 25% of people loving our music (and in this internet age so what if the other 75% hate it) then having universal scores of 3. Yet the latter might actually score much higher. Anyway might be interesting. Or even just how many 1 and 2's or 4 and 5's. Not sure how much extra work it would be... Sorry if it's already been suggested before.

You can see exactly how many of each score 1-5 a track receives and the score from each voter for every track on the google doc which is linked in the results posting for each OSC. It will be on the data tab at the bottom IIRC
Win10 x64, Reaper 6.XX x64, i5-3330, 8gb ram, GTX-970, UC-33, Panorama P4, Wharfedale Diamond 8.2 and JVC HA-RX700

Lol. Thanks. :)

I have just found this free FM synth with four operators which might be an interesting option for one of the next OSCs:

BPB article about it:

There's a PC and Mac version which is another plus.

This sounds good
Although a little play with it my mouse arrow disappeared and I had to shut down & restart Reaper in order to use again. Quite an odd error.
Other than that, reminds me of Krakli k200👍

A quick note to whoever is maintaining

In the initial registration form, there seem to be restrictions as to what password can be used. However, the rules are never told to the person registering. I couldn't set up an account without using the "safely generated password option".

The new Hy-poly has a free version which already sounds fantastic. I think that would be a perfect candidate for an OSC...

Just thought I’d throw these into the mix
Not tried them yet, anyone?

In FL Studio I got errors with these plugins, Cakewalk just "didn't see" them after scanning. Opened the Poly Pad using SAVIHost. The Save and Load buttons do not work, and switching presets is not displayed. In addition, it seems to be less interesting than any of the previously offered synthesizers. *personal opinion :)

He he he ... may be in the future a Challenge with my Melda SoundFactory Creation? I'm currently at creating a reproduction of the classic analog mono synth Octave Cat ... in terms of synth structure.
While working at the Synth I threw together some patches, check it out. It's two parts with 30 seconds each: https://soundcloud.com/p-e-t-e-r-h/msf- ... BWzT65cC0q
